Great Idea and worth supporting.

Mongols were like medieval nazis who massacred peasant farmers as they saw no use for them and rendered down dead civilians' bodies to make fat to grease the wheels of their wagons and siege towers. Shame on you, Kallistra, Old Glory and Magister Militum for making ranges glorifying them. You are each worse than Hitler  ;)

Only thing i'd use mongols for would maybe be Easterling or Variag cavalry for a LOTR campaign.

Welcome to the forum.

The Roman armies that fought the Huns were what WRG and DBM army lists call Patrician Roman, which is kind of a cross between Hunnic/Byzantine style armoured cavalry with bows on unarmoured horses and relatively low morale infantry - and with a high proportion of barbarian allies. For some of the cavalry for Patrician Roman the closest figures in 10mm are probably early Byzantines, though Late Roman figures would probably be fine for many of the other units

I did play a battle which i wrongly thought was historically accurate long ago against my brother with me as Huns and him as Late Romans. It was very one sided in the Romans' favour, partly because Late Romans have so many high morale good foot archers and javelinmen that they take horse archers to pieces easily; and partly i think because the WRG 7th edition rules don't represent the unique bows the huns used, which seem to have been much more powerful than most nomad bows, and from archaeological excavations of Hunnic graves were a composite bow with a top half much longer than the lower half (found out about that from Terry Jones' Barbarians series - it'll likely be in the book too)

Huns Vs Patrician Romans would probably be a much more balanced fight than Huns vs Late Romans too.

Hello all,

FYI there's currently a 2-for-£10 BluRay deal on Amazon and "Mongol" by Sergei Bodrov is in there, which I recommend. I usually struggle with sub-titled movies (painting/sculpting at the same time) but this was very engaging, spectacular and stirring, so I sat through it and enjoyed it immensely.

This is the link to the deal:

This is the previous release of the DVD with reviews:

Welcome to the forum Hybrid, you will soon over take me in posts, I'm impressed with the progress with the mongols - once we get them out is worth trying with a more popular range (only from my point of view being stuck in the 19th century) :-\

It might have slowed down, as Leon has gone on holiday for a week or so - which, as he said, was rather poor planning after having announced this!

I suspect when he comes back he will have a bunch of new forum members and new posts to sort out!

Well, I'm back from holiday, and good to see the pledges are still coming in!  I've just authorised 7 new members, so hopefully some of them are here for the Mongol project as well.

So put me down for 23 packs to start with. I'll need another 23 packs about 3 - 4 months later to finish the army. I don't mind if you put that down as 23 or 46 packs. So long as we're clear that they will be ordered in two separate batches.

Thanks for the post, and welcome to the Forum!

I've updated the total now, so we've currently got £1320 worth of pledges, which is a fantastic response.  The Yurts have now been added to the range as well.

The next target will be £1500, so suggestions please on what else people would like to see added to the range!

A very interesting idea and glad ro see it's doing so well, but I would be rather more interested in another 10mm range of Mongols if codes were included armed with rifles rather than bows. There would need to be a light cavalry "firing from horseback" code and lancers etc. others with rifles slung on back in place of the bow and quiver.

OK, admittedly of limited use to those hankering to be Genghis Khan but a godsend for us Back of Beyond types and (if you pretendi thery're Crimean Tartars or Kalmucks and do a few mods) those seeking different irregular allies/opponents for C17-C19th  Poles, Cossacks or Russians.

Thanks for the post, and welcome to the Forum.  We'll be sticking with the earlier period for now, but it wouldn't be too hard to add these at a later date.

Hi, just found this thread. You ask for possible additions to the range. My ideas would be:

1)  A pack of remount horses already saddled, possibly with one or two warriors on herd duties.

2) I know you are making a Chinggis Khan figure as a freebie to pledgers so how about a commander pack for others, models of Jebe the Arrow, Bo'orchu, Muqali possibly in Chinese armour to represent the fact he spent most of his latter career against the Jin of Northern China and the greatest of them all, Subedai Bahadur, who, legend has it, he had to be carried around on a cart because he was so big.

3) A pack of EHC, all in the same position to represent the keshik or the khan's guards.

4) Siege machines and crews including officers -who could double up as commanders for the dismounted warriors.

5) To go with the Chinggis Khan model, a model of the Great Naccara or camel-mounted kettle drummer that signaled the attack.

6) Unarmed peasants that the Mongols used as arrow-fodder.

In case you couldn't tell, I have a mahoosive interest in the Mongols, possessing four armies already in 6mm, 10mm, 15mm and 25/28mm.

Put me down for a pack of the dismounted archers (MON11) and one of the camp followers (MON12).

This  is  really interesting and I think a good way to go.

Not wishing to add huge amounts to range but can see a couple of useful additions

Command with Camel Drummer
Dismounted Cavalry with Lance
Dismounted Cavalry with lance and Pavisse

Artillery - mainly with chinese crew

Agree with this
