Anybody tried Tomix/Tomytec N scale buildings?

Hi

Japanese N scale is often described as 1/150. Has anybody tried them out with Pendraken figures/models?

Oh yes!

I have a sizeable collection of them, mainly for more modern games, but a few for VBCW. I will try and sort some photos. Also use lots of other railway buildings for VBCW and must say they do give a good look on the field.

Sure Sandanista can back me up on this one as I believe he has photos, and the ability to show them for higher than mine

I use their Z scale stuff; they make a nifty mikoshi with bearers. Their N scale nude females are very useful too, until Pendraken stops messing about with unnecessary fantasy stuff from the 1930s and starts attending to the needs of real gamers.

Thanks for the replies. Looks they are what I'm looking for. Looking to do 1930s Imagi-Nations set in Asia clone so oriental looking buildings are required.

I'm having a real problem processing this comment, there seems to be direct contradictions in the statement  , how can fantasy stuff from the 1930s be 'unnecessary'!!

Might also look at Greenmax N scale if I can find it at a decent price.

I was once told buy a guy in a model railway shop that N gauge is '2 mm' - meaning 2mm to the foot.

2mm/N gauge/N scale/TT gauge are even more confusing than comparing wargame figure sizes within a scale  .

English N gauge is meant to be 1/148 but I have bought N gauge cars which are 1/160. 2mm scale is 1/152. European and American N scale is 1/160 and Japanese N scale is 1/150 except for bullet trains at 1/160. TT gauge uses 9mm track but models narrow gauge railways and is 1/120.

Have both those models specifically fpr an Indochina gaming set up and yes they are spot on perfect for Pendraken 10mm, fantastic models that do not dward the figs, instead you get a scale building with a template that isn't excessive in terms of how much table space it takes up. Great value.

Yes they are the obvious choice but you could look at RCW1 RCW infantry with the point of the budenovka filed off,


to give you Northern Chinese troops.

WW1 Italians could be used for Tin Hat Brigade:-



and WW1 British cavalry in caps could be used for Chinese/White Russian lancers:-


Not much in the way of armour  was used but a real grab-bag of artillery.

Dismounted WW1 British cavalry seem to be best for Southerners.

As regards buildings, the trick will be to select those that look, to a 'Westerner', Chinese and not necessarily Japanese.
