Are there any hard data on Roman shield designs from the mid-Republic yet?

Very nicely done and I really like the bases 8).

Thanks!  :)

Not sure... but I´ve always prefered a plain version, in white (as Osprey´s ilustration)

That was my first reference book when I was making the little chaps !  ;) :)
With a serious question (for a change).
Do we know what kind of 'paint' the 'Ancients' used to decorate their shields ?
Has any survived on any shields over the centuries...or do we just go on descriptions from the old historians ?

The figures are brilliant, the bases..............perfection, a real mediterranean feel to them.

Very pleasing on the eye, thanks for sharing. =D>

That was my first thought when I got the figures  ;)

Only one small complaint ... I would have liked some pose throwing the javelin. Also that, at least, the helmet of triarii would have been different.

Anyway, the figures are fantastic. I´ll really enjoy painting the legionaries. Great job Techno!

I think so that there is some reference on Hellenistic armies uniform colors, but I have no idea about romans.

My totally feeble excuse is that I hadn't made a 'throwing pose' dolly at that point 'H'......I'm sure that when time permits that one (and maybe others) will get added to the range. :)
Very pleased you like them ! :-bd

But wherever we do have data, it always appears that shields from one end of the classical world to the other were painted; and we know quite a lot about later Roman designs.
