Hi All

Been looking at expanding the Franco-Thai war by including rebel forces under Việt Nam Quốc Dân Đảng  and I was just wondering what figures from the Indo China range http://www.pendraken.co.uk/Post-War-Modern-c20/Indo-China-sc135/ would suit them best.

Some background - http://www.onwar.com/aced/chrono/c1900s/yr30/fvietnam1930.htm

Bearing in mind that the flow of communist weapons would be almost non-existent through China, I'd think that the rebels (in 1930 they were mainly native colonial troops) would be likely armed with French weapons.

The smg types are out but I can probably squint and get away with the vz30 as an FM 24/29 and the Japanese MMG as an Hotchkiss. Does anybody have any pictures of the VietMinh figures so I can get an idea of what the others look like? Otherwise any good ideas of what could be used?

Thanks for any  help

Wow Vic, you do pick them.

The conflict is short on images- you might find a few generated and on line concerning the Yen Bai incident.  What black& white images I have seen seems to major on the French.

Basically any figure in south east Asia dress - with a bolt action rifle.   The bare headed Tu Ve and the traditionally dressed Chu Luc are staple figures.  You can beef up with a few Japanese and mutinious Vietnamese troops in French based uniform. (SCW with french helmet/cap?)  A few floppy hats etc.

Colour wise, clothing seems off white and drabs. The "black pyjamas" uniform  of the 1970s Viet Cong is not evident but that does not stop some figures being in black.

Hope this helps.

Hello James/Sunray

I had some French kit and was thinking what else I could do and came across the French Thai war. Also I was trying out a Chinese supplier to get a Zhong Shan gunboat, so I thought an Imag-Nations based on that war with Viet-Minh type rebels, Japanese interference, British involvement and other bits could be fun  :D.

For the French I'm planning to use the WW1 mideast British imperials, should be close enough at arms length:-

Might have scratch around to replace the Vickers MMG with a Hotchkiss but not too much else needs changing.

I might be able to use the Chu Luc VZ30 as a captured Fm 24/29, again at arms length  :)

Cheers

Vic/GrumpyOldMan.

Thanks for the heads up on what's available
