Hope you're OK too. When I used to cycle to work, I noticed that the standard of driving had dropped markedly over the past 10 - 15 years, especially bus drivers :(. Everyone seemed to be in such a hurry to get to work, overtaking me on blind bends etc :o.

Good to hear you are ok Ian, NZ drivers are pretty crap and closing the borders has proved we can't blame the tourists

Ditto from me Ian.... stay safe.... l'm on a bit of a road trip in the South Island currently and can only agree with Paul's comment on the crappy standard of some drivers in NZ these days from my experiences over the last 2 days.

Other good news for me is that I have just completed my first ever house purchase today, in sunny Tuakau. Does this mean that I am an adult now at 56?

Congratulations on your new home.  I am afraid it does not make you an adult. I am the same age as you and have purchased 4 homes (one at a time), and still have the mental age of a small boy. In fact a couple of years back my stepdaughter bought me a card saying "Happy 5th Birthday" with a badge saying "I am 5"

Also the very fact you frequent this Forum with lots of other Old boys with low mental ages confirms this.
