Surely a machine gun is a better choice? As it fires a steam of bullets it helps you hit the target by being able to walk the aim onto the target.

A shotgun is just a single shot, even if it covers a big area.

The Germans did have upward firing rockets on some of their night fighters - it was a bit like a big shotgun.

True, but with the shotgun you don't really need to be spot on. Close is good enough.

But the ammunition wouldn't have enough KE to,do much damage beyond peppering. Plus you have to contend with e ammo storage and the recoil. Nowadays much to have an asraam that looks for a plane and chases it! Much better range performance than any gun in air to air use.

Gotta wait for the results of the tests, which I should hear about in the next couple of days.
Don't really know if I want to get it over and done quickly, or keep having it delayed for a few months.

Four us (two couples) off to Virginia today, including 3 days in the Shenandoah Valley. I'm taking my copy of Osprey's Shenandoah Valley 1862 and hoping to persuade the others to visit more than one battlefield. See you all later!  :-h
