French and Indian War Skirmish in 10mm?

General Bt Sherman

Last week, I listened to the Meeples & Miniatures Pod cast review of Muskets & Tomahawks. I’m now convinced that this is a game that I want to play. The question is what scale. I feel the pull to 28mm because the figures are great. However, I don’t really want to get into a new scale because of the terrain required. Pendraken’s F&IW range seems pretty complete except it could use some civilians and hero type figures. So, I was wondering if anybody uses Pendraken’s F&IW range to skirmish game or would you consider using it?

Thanks

I don't do it yet, but I was intending on doing some AWI and FIW skirmish in 10mm.

May take a little juggling but I think it is very doable.

I was thinking about this very thing last night for exactly the same reasons as general bt. (btw you can get some civilians in the SYW range)

I was concerned that the individual figures might be a bit fiddly but another thought i had was of using 2-3 figures on each base, but in all other ways treating it like the basic rules. It might make regular firing lines look a bit more convincing too. Might that work ?

When I first stumbled on M&T I considered going 10mm but was put off by the pack sizes as most armies in M&T come to no more than 20 or so a side.

I had quite a bit of 15mm stuff kicking around so have gone that route instead, but can see how multiple figures to a base might work too
I don't think my wife likes me very much, when I had a heart attack she wrote for an ambulance.

I would think you already have the perfect set-up for 10mm.  I can't even imagine the cost in buildings alone for a 28mm game especially since you already have several in 10mm that would most likely work alright for this period as well.  Better yet, if you decide to jump into larger 10mm FIW games you'll already have some nice figures going.

For me I've already been looking at AWI, I order some on the 14th and I've not even had a good start with 10mm ACW.  By the way my wife bought me some 10mm Gettysburg buildings from Buildings in Turmoil for my birthday last week.  :)  They are nice and I also found the Pendraken ACW buildings which is great because I'm gonna need a ton more.

Gee Leon - I know you are flexible when it comes to packs but I thought this might have been taking the p*** as it would be something along the lines of:

1 officer from pack so and so, six assorted british line firing from a seperate pack, seven hessian jagers from another pack, 3 light infantry skirmishing from another pack, 8 indians..... etc.

I'd have thought that would be tremendous amount of hassle :o

I have ordered specific figures from the SCW range with no problem at all. Naturally I'm paying more for them but less than for a whole pack that I don't need. Hassle wise only Leon can answer that, but I for one really appreciate being able to do this. Long may it continue :).

Hi,

I ordered this last week after reading a couple of reviews. My intention is to use it for FIW and AWI skirmish in 10mm using my leftovers from my Maurice armies.

Waiting for it to arrive, looks great fun, and suitable for solo play by all accounts.

Would love to play this in 28mm, but I have the secenry and minis in 10mm so it makes send to keep it in the same scale as my Maurice Armies.

Cheers, Craig

Nah, no hassle, we can do those for you.  We just price them by the figure instead (12p per fig usually).

Thanks for all the feedback. So, F&IW skirmish seem feasible in 10mm. The scale definitely has its advantages and disadvantages. I need to put some more thought into it before I move forward. On a side note, I have also been thinking about doing some WW1 Skirmish gaming for some time now. I see that the more WW1 poses request made the top 10 list. My next thread will probably ask about WW1 Skirmish gaming. I’m thinking late war, western front, Germans vs French, with through the Mud and the Blood rules.

Thanks again.

Yes, I'm going to do it, though I'm going to use Two Hour Wargames Muskets & Mohawks and Long Rifle rules sets.

Put my order through tonight to beat the price rise.  :-[
