Ship quandary

Hi guys, I need some help to make up my mind on something .....

The latest campaign I'm planning is based in the 1940's and will involve inshore/Coastal ships and river boats. My thoughs turned imediately to the excellent Pendraken corvette model that I've been meaning to get for ages. The model is 'based on' the Flower Class I believe, but 'compressed'. This means that the model is 250mm long, a manageable table top size, rather than the 400mm it would be if modelled to scale.

There in lies my problem .....

I want to use other craft such as the British Fairmile B and German E-Boat, both of which were just over 100ft long which scales out to just over 200mm.

Both would have to be scratch built, but should I a) model them 'compressed' to match the corvette, or b) model them to scale, and either scrap the corvette idea, or try to find an alternative prototype to convert the corvett too?

What would you do?

Bearing in mind my profound ignorance, I'd ditch the corvette if you are doing coastal/inshore warfare. My impression was that the whole purpose of the Flower class corvettes, based on a trawler design (?) , was high seas convoy defence. I sit back,waiting to get my coat, as those more knowledgeable than I, step in.

I think if you approach it as "rather generic warship" in a river or coastal situation it will do fine.  RCN Flowers were deep-water convoy escort ships, very ASW specialized.  I believe RN corvettes were much the same; so if it is going to be strictly a corvette it is not quite on.

I have indeed seen photo's of the model, both as supplied and finished, but thanks for the link Lentulus, that is a clear shot. Seems a shame not to be able to take advantage of its availability.

I should have mentioned that the campaign is set after the end of the war, so although the Corvette's primary (but certainly not sole) role was convey escort, that duty would be behind it.

Leon did once mention that there was a possibility of some WW2 gunboats etc being sculpted .... I wonder if those were going to be 'to scale' or compressed - that would have a bearing on my decision

Some were sold into civilian service. It was afterall an expedient warship, and a far from ideal design.

As well as in ten Navies, all of which are in areas that could be frequented by the adventurers in my campaign, hence the original quandry

Not to mention that as a 'pulp' campaign historical accuracy isn't that important - the question of scale is, to me at least.

Build the mtb's to scale and use the Flower class as a converted civie ship like the large numbers of trawlers that where converted in WW1 and 2 make it look a bit less warship and more civie come warship by adding a few removable deck houses then you can have a corvette and convert for the price of one
