My colonists, marines, and aliens can't show up fast enough.  In the meantime, I've got a little time to build some boards for them to fight over. So far I've got the main colony for the hapless human miners built and ready to go.  Here are some pre- and post-paint pictures:

And some detail shots:

This centerpiece was built almost entirely out of found items saved from the rubbish.  It's all mounted on a 1/4-inch thick piece of craft board 12-inches on a side.  More construction details available on my blog.

Nicely done - those plastic containers for print cartridges (front left in top pics) are perfect for this type of building  8)

Very nice. Looks that, like me, you collect a stack of random plastic bits n' bobs; enjoyable recycling.

Leon

Excellent, I'll have to go see what we've got sat in the kitchen for the recycling bin...!

In face, I do.  I have a big plastic tub under the sink in the bathroom filled with anything that might look useful.  Originally, I had planned to build a couple of 'macroture' space ships, but keep dipping into it for things like this.

Added some rocks and alien plants to the mix today.  The tube-plant-things are melted straws cut to size (idea taken from Terragenesis.)

Squirrel

That's aneat idea, and again very effective 8)

i have used the melted straws idea (got from the same place as you :) ) in 28mm but never 10mm they would look good amongst my dinosaurs  :D :D :D

It's a cheap and easy effect, ain't it?  One of the things I did a little different was to use two different sizes of straws.  Thecraft store had really thick straws at the counter for 25 cents, straws big enough to jam three normal straws into .  In the center of the 'heavy vegetation' template, you can see how I stuffed the little ones in the big one to add a little more variety.
