One of the two Austrian infantry brigades is now complete. I hadn't realised when I chose these two brigades that both brigadiers, Fragnern and Kreysern, were killed at Skalitz.

Spot the point at which Pendraken changed from cast standards to bare poles!  ;)

I know the Austrians still used horsed Cav in 1966 and were a tad backward, but me thinks you about a century advanced in this thread.......

Nicely done.  I have this Corps as well, but it's battle record doesn't exactly inspire confidence!

No, the commander wasn't exactly another Napoleon, was he. Mind you, neither was the commander of their designated opponents - the Prussian 1st Corps.  =)

HB,

Not sure what you mean by "designated opponent"?   I thought the VIII corps came up against Steinmetz and 5th Corps at Skalitz, and the three divisions of Herwarth von Bittenfeld's Elbe Armee at Koniggratz?

HB,

Sorry, I'm being stupid, so nothing unusual there!  Of course you mean Prussian 1st Corps are the opponents you are building, not clear why I walked blindly past the obvious answer.  A good choice, some sexy grenadier regiments if I recall correctly. Haven't got 1st corps myself, maybe the next one off the production line after 14th Division Munster?

Also, apropos of nothing, I was standing by his grave a few weeks ago. At least I think I was, as the little cemetery on the outskirts of Skalitz has two separate monuments, both of which seem to claim to be his!

Archduke Leoplod, couldn't find his a*se with both hands and a flashlight.
Don't buy your daughters a pony, buy them heroin instead, its cheaper and ultimately less addictive.

mollinary

But first he'd need to find the flashlight!

I take it we're discussing Fragnern? Not many generals get two memorials, I guess. :-\

At least the Prussians had the sense to put in competent chiefs of staff to steer their aristocratic figureheads.

Hertsblue,

Yes, Fragnern's grave(s).  One is in a corner of the cemetery as part of a mass grave of soldiers of his brigade, the other is a single cross in the opposite corner of the cemetery.
