I posted this on BKC forum as well , but thought I would stick it here as well

Well I watched the first two episodes last night, and I have to say I was pretty unimpressed.

Both myself and my wife watched it, and after it all we didnt know who any of the Characters were, not sure even what unit they are with , though it might be the 1st Marine Division, and as my wife said after the first episode of BoB at least she knew who everyone was

The first episodes are about  Guadalcanal , and to be honest I dont know a lot about this campaign, but after watching it all I dont know if Guadalcanal lasted 6 months or a day and half

The action scenes are fantastic though, and I'll keep watching but overall it was a bit of a let down
If I were creating Pendraken I wouldn't mess about with Romans and  Mongols  I would have started with Centurions , eight o'clock, Day One!

I don't!  Only because I never seem to have time.  I've all on just to check TMP for Pendraken-related questions at the moment.

I've just watched the first 3 episodes, and I thought it was good.  I've never seen BoB, so I can't compare them, but I've enjoyed them.  The historical info/narrative at the beginning of each episode was a bit odd at first, but was fine by the third episode, and it was interesting hearing from the men who were there.

Also, those Australian girls were quite friendly!

Dave's got them all on DVD, I'm going to borrow them off him once The Pacific's finished.

Just watched episodes 4 & 5.  Still good, although I'm starting to lose interest in the Leckie character.  They've introduced Sledge now, so we'll see where they go with him.

Episode 6 was much better.  Going across the airfield at Peleliu looked truly horrifying, I was sat in my seat thinking 'How the hell...' throughout.  As other people have said, they seem to have captured the feel of the actual combat fantastically well.  Blowing people's legs/arms off always helps though.

Well 'The Pacific' finished on Monday night.  What did everyone think of it?

To be honest I stuggled through it, but left it on sky planner to re-watch.  I feel that if they had played part ten first and put a "4 years earlier" text at the bottom of the screen there would be more empathy to all the characters.  I am currently at episade 9 on the second go round, makes much more sense and I have an idea of who is who.

I think BoB was so good there is no comparison - however I think that in BoB the scenery changes ie. it starts in Georgia, moves to Upottery, then France and so on and so on.  The point being each country has a feel and look which is different, how difficult is it to make volcanic islands covered in jungle look different?  much more so than in Europe.

Just a few musings

I really enjoyed it, but then I've not watched BoB yet  (  :o  I know, I've borrowed it off Dave!)  It seemed to slow down around Episode 3/4, where they follow Leckie away from the action, but it picked up again after that.  A lot of people I've spoken to have said how it's not as good as BoB, but from the way people talk about it, like you say, there doesn't appear to be any comparison.

With recognising the characters, I think I was OK with the main three and a couple of the regulars around them, but I often lost track of some people and kept thinking they'd been killed when it wasn't actually them.  Whether that's a fault of the production, or it's designed to make you feel that way, as another realistic portrayal of war, I don't know.

Either way, I liked it, I've got it on the Sky+ to watch again, and I'm taping it for Dave!  Next up: BoB!
