Poppies were one of the scatter packs of blossom that you can get from model railway shops or in my case from Realistic Modelling

This may be a little late for this thread but you might find it useful.
Here's an idea I came across many, many, many years ago
You know that wire mesh you can purchase for repairing panels on car bodies?
Slice strips off it with scissors (tedious yes but hang on!) as in the first image.
Wrapping the strips around an appropriate diameter round thing......
and pulling from the end.....
Provides one with pretty good looking, cheap barbed wire. Image 2.

I think I'm still doing the image uploader thing wrong!
Its always full and my pics are only 50kB each.
The explanation ain't all that and as soon as I can add the pics it might be a lot more enlightening!
Sorry.
I will keep trying.

Sunray

Do keep trying. The concept is quite sound and the source cheap.  Love to see the results.

Yee-hah! Thanks to set set of GordonY instructions from back in August 2010 here are my pics.
Not the most intuitive set of instructions but at least you can see the method and results now!
I'm going to lie down with a rum toddy and get some rest now. that has been quite a traumatic experience.
