Hail Caesar Fantasy

I have started playing fantasy using Hail Caesar it is great fun, it is so easy to adapt to fantasy. Hardly need to alter anything just use the extra rules and interpret as you wish. We use all sorts of bits and pieces, I will be trying out a dinosaur army in the next week or so. Which were all bought in a big tub from the early learning centre, less than a tenner for 48 figures majority fitting to 10mm scale.

Yes, my son got one of those as soon as he discoverd the "Harry and his Bucketfull of Dinosaurs" series of stories. I can't wait for him to lose interest in them so that they can be recruited for a HOTT army.
Or maybe I could encourage them to enlist one at a time.

I've only played Hail Caeser with Fantasty armies - we have stuck with Warmaster and LoTR ones.  My playing partner has written up a lot of the WM armies in HC terms (with some tweaks from me) these are posted on the HC yahoo group.  But as a set of rules it seems very easy to adapt to Fantasy. We have so far been cautious in stating up monsters to not make them too powerful.

Some of our group are still keen on WM so we play to from time to time.

Dinos as elephants basically, we had a base of wild rhino's and used them as a scythed chariot, was funny to see the spearmen scatter

Am I the only one who thinks that wargamers are a bit odd..

Black Powder which is rewritten as
Hail Caesar and people are using this to play
Fantasy

I think it is more of a rules evolution than a fashion thing.

WM Fantasy introduced the dice roll for command mechanism. It also had a large range of armies produced to accompany the rules, and these are very nice figures. A lot of people have a lot of these figures.

But WMF has some problems with combat mechanisms. WM Ancients took the rules and applied them to historical battles, and made combats last multi rounds, which was good. But it still has a lot of the stand based fiddiliness of WMF.

BP and HC refined and streamlined the rules and mechanisms. Units move as blocks of troops, and multi move orders are carried out in 1 movement, not a bunch of sequential ones, comabts can be drawn out allowing reserves to be thrown in. All in all it plays better.

As for wanting to play Fantasy games with HC, I refer you to my earlier point some people have a lot of these figures.

Agreed. If GW had kept developing Warmaster, we could now be playing the 3rd or 4th edition, which may well have looked very much like Hail Caesar 

Me? I'm quite happy with Warmaster, just wish more people played it.

Although Kings of War looks interesting. Mantic are pushing it for their 28mm figures, but there is no individual figure removal, so it looks likes it's perfect for 10mm scale, and fixed units. Just change inches to centimetres for  measurement. Very pared down ruleset as well, which is becoming more important to me as I age. Beginning to get a bit fed up with games where ever single unit has one or more special rules to remember.

That's why I like HOTT. Simplicity itself. Easy to learn and a challenge to master.

No need to shout  - I agree people have lots of WM stuff, and HC is a logical way to go. But it still be cyclic, we start with very simple rules and advance to the horrors of Challenger 2000, or Cambrai to Sinia then cycle back again.
