Howdy Capt,

My bad, I downloaded Tusk 1. However, Irregular Miniatures has Tusk II and Tusk III on their website.  Tusk II is an expansion and Tusk III looks like more in the future.

O Dinas Powys

Huge apologies, real life has been far too hectic recently so I've not been on the Forum for what seems like an eternity!   :'(

Blaker, thanks for the cool post, I'll give it the proper reply it deserves if/when life quietens down again!

In the meantime I'm just trying to get together the basis of an order before the Warfare Deadline tomorrow evening!

So quick question: does the mammoth with howdah come with any crew?

Hopefully I'll be back properly soon...

Cheers,

Meirion

Howdy O Dinas,

As far as I remember, the pack does not come with crew. It seems like from a much older Pendraken Catalog, you could pick a crew but that might have been the catapult  :-\

Have fun at Warfare!

Blaker

Speaking of. . . which Pendraken minis would work for  CAVEMEN?   :D

fred.

The Barbarians are fairly close - though perhaps a little under-dressed.

Yeah, spear and bow armed barbarians would be good.  Amazons too possibly, but only for temperate and tropical regions  ;)

Maenoferren's entry from the painting competition is petty cool:

AI11 Ancient Indian Forest tribesmen are another code I've seen that would do for more advanced hunters:

The wizard might make a tribal elder/shaman with some modification and an appropriate paint job.

Thanks O Dinas, I have some Barbarians out in the barn, must go dig the out  :D

Do you think the War Mammoth without howdah would for the Mammoth hunt ?

Pretty sure there are a couple of them out there also.

Now just need to see which rules would work or if I need to mash the rules together  :D

fred.

The mammoth is definately suitable, the howdah is completely separate. The mammoth is big too, about 30mm tall, and with big tusks.

this is a pic of my mammoth, I thought I had a picture of him with my hunting party for scale but evidently not :-[
I did a bit of bending and snipping to get him to rear up... I had just watched 10,000BC and had a man poking with a spear and a mammoth and the two just sort of worked :D
Sometimes I wonder - why is that frisbee geting bigger - and then it hits me!

Certainly hope so!  Just ordered pretty much everything mammalian from the catalogue for collection at Wafare so I'll let you know what else is suitable.  ;)

Cracking work on that mammoth  :-bd

I was wondering whether I could do something similar to the Pendraken "carnosaur" to give it a more modern, bipedal pose.  Probably have to start on something smaller like one of the raptors ;)

Yeah.  Been giving this a bit of thought, just haven't had time to really work on it.

Tusk seem to be a good, simple set of rules which were fun when I played them a Colours.  The one thing that grates with me is that the only difference between creatures is their reaction table.

However, I really like the reaction table system as a means of determining behaviour/reactions for the creatures.  My idea would be to port these over to another system with a slightly more realistic combat system.

Of the systems mentioned in this thread Savage Worlds and Dungeon World are the two I'm most likely to use.

I think they would probably reaction tables would work very nicely with Savage Worlds: on the creatures initiative card just roll on the table and apply the result.  (This approach would probably work fine with any I-go-U-go or sequential initiative system.)

Dungeon World's novel initiative system poses a more tricky problem.  One possibility would be to port the DW combat system into Tusk.  I don't have the rules to hand, but as far as I remember this wouldn't be too tricky.    I was hoping Six would have his website live by now so we could see if he's modified the system significantly for above-ground skirmishes (or mass combat even).

Cheers,

Meirion

That's ok, I've been a bit out of the loop recently myself  ;)

There seems to be an unwritten law of nature that as soon as you say you'll do something for somebody real life intervenes BIG TIME!   :'(
