VBCW - suggestions for figures

I've been gaming VBCW in 28mm but my erstwhile opponent has had to sell off his stuff to pay the bills  :(

As a result, I'm thinking about switching to 10mm, especially as I'd like to use the Brigadier 38 rules and have nowhere near enough 28mm figures.

I'm looking for suggestions for figures for the different factions, especially the BUF, which I'm planning to make the first units for.

The SCW and WW1 / WW1 ranges are so big that I don't know where to start, so some suggestions would be really helpful.

Thanks

Jim

Hi Jim,

Lots of suggestions here: http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=2284.0 and if you search the forim for VBCW topics you'll probably find more.

Don't forget Pendraken now has a dedicated VBCW range on the main website, within the Interwar section.

Cheers,

Kev

Hello Jim/Boggler

It's always hard to suggest something without knowing what look you're after  :D. I was planning to use SCW - Regular Army (winter dress) http://www.pendraken.co.uk/Inter-War-c18/SCW-Regular-Army-winter-dress-sc190/ for my BUF. The puttees and blanket roll may not be everybody's idea of what BUF should look like  :D.

There are nuggets of information strewn all around the forum on VBCW and seemingly unrelated topics like CTV in the SCW that are very handy. For example, people looking for RN or generic naval types now know to use the Sailors out of the WW1 German East African range  :D.

I don't know if you had any joy with the 1/150 gunboat, but the Revell Campbelltown cuts down very well if you want a gunboat type vessel  for VBCW.

Hurrah

I'm looking for something rather specific as a character figure/command.

I'm looking for something that could be the Stigs (Great?) Grandfather!  :o

Are there any figures that have the look of a Pilot, or possible racing car driver from the 30's (i'm talking full figure, not a top half only to sit in a cockpit). A dispatch rider without motorcycle could do it.

Sunray

I have done a simple but passable conversion of WW1 (dispatch rider) . (1) Detach/cut away  the bike (2) trim to bottom of 3/4 length leather jacket and (3) add legs. (cut that overall height is 10/11 mm)

I wanted a pilot figure standing by an aircraft for a diorama.

Do you have a photo?

Sunray

Conversion was done yesterday. New digital camera is....somewhere between San Clement and Malibu with youngest daughter, so no photo until after 18th - I will post eye candy images of grounded pilot, the gunboat , the Bristol Fighter (for Nik) , the Soviet 130mm gun  ...the French 75mm with rubber tyres...and the Gem Models Tiger Moth fitted with a Lewis gun. Hows that?

Sorry

I haven't had any luck finding the Gunboat but I did come across another manufacturer of n scale (1/160) craft but it seems he is only on Facebook at the moment (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Ncentricities/323491007410?sk=wall).

I'll let you know how I get on with my expedition into the wilds of Facebook  ;D.

(I'm also looking forward to your pictures  :D)

I think we may have gone as far as we can go in hijacking this thread now ^#(^

Vic, I have this kit.  Bought it some years ago and found it was scaled BIG enough to blodge up for use on a 15mm game.  The plastic crew were close to 1/120.   I can verify it will dwarf everything else on a 10mm table.

Might have been Revell at one time, now is on an American label.

Sorry for the highjack fellow forum users

I'm not sure what you're after in terms of a gunboat but there is a free download of a German torpedo boat destroyer card kit here:

http://www.digitalnavy.com/html/v108.html

It's scalebale (apparently) but might do as it is being around 1.200th.

There's also a sub chaser here:

Thanks for all the help with 10mm figures for VBCW  :D

Sunray

Thanks blogger -  the niggle with card kits are that they are designed to be looked at.  Not 'played' fast and furious on a wargames table.  But some designs can be trasferred to plastic card - the X craft Lighter from papershipwright which I am scratchbuilding is a nice one.

But many thanks for the link, and watch the tracer from Grumpy Old Man, he is the best scout on the forum for sourcing kit.

I take your point about the cad option - a bit flimsy unless you reinforce it or use a balsa core.

There's also this plastic kit:

I have one unbuilt) and it scales out perfectly with 10mm figures. It's a bit early for VBCW unless you convert it or use it as an ex WW1 ship.

Thanks Jim, yes, that was on a thead last week. (see 1/150 gunboat)  The basic kit is good but many of the parts for gun and fittings are  WAY OFF SCALE AND close to 1/100 or even HO. I am currenty building one with Pendraken guns/fittings.

Still have not worked out what to do with the electric motor that is supplied with the hull ! Also needs a bridge to be scratch built as the parts are not as depicted on box art or the origional photos !  But as said, very good value for money for a 1/150 kit.
