The totty thread has been neglected whilst you've been painting these  =)

Shame on me  ;) I'll sort that right now  :d

Nik will you be painting up Saladins opponents anytime soon?

Looking for some inspiration as these are two armies that are based and primed ready to start (along with Rus/Carolingian/Viking/Samurai and lots of other generuic medieval types, both sides for the ECW and some Indo-China stuff PJ convinced me to buy...)

So many armies, so little time! ;D
I don't think my wife likes me very much, when I had a heart attack she wrote for an ambulance.

Yep - hopefully!

At the moment I've got JCs' WW2 Brit commission to finish - and then I should be onto some of my own stuff: including these...[although I do keep getting distracted!]; Luke's also after some more WW1 artillery so that'll need doing...

I've got a bit of time off over August though [long weekends mostly] so that'll help...

Finally - got round to making a start on the Crusaders...dunno where the time goes  - and I forgot to take pics as I painted... :-[

Anyway, have got the cavalry done: Sergeants & Knights - these will get transfers for shields & then washed later; the highlights on the white have bleached out with the flash:

Sergeants:

Knights:

OOo they`re really smartly done... nice work  :)

Nosher

As usual *top notch* Nik

Which reminds me - I MUST get on with starting my Salah Ah-din... been distracted by some 28mm SAGA Anglo-Saxons :o

Thanks folks...house was invaded yesterday & into today by relatives, but have had a thoroughly pleasant afternoon (although, again, got carried away with painting & forgot to take pics as I went...):

Commands:

Crossbows:

Infantry:

I think these will probably get one wash before bunging shield transfers on & then another before a fast final highlight...I want 'em dark & dirty  :d

Medievals look great en masse, Nik.

Can I make one suggestion, though? I know you're only snapping them for internal consumption, but photograph them against a plain backgound. They stand out so much better. Small sheet of plain grass-paper would do the trick.  ;)
When you realise we're all mad, life makes a lot more sense.

Yep - good point, but what I tend to do is WIP / Painting Diary pics on my painting board like this & then once they're finished they get lobbed on-table for the pretty pics...unless you'd like to see the WIP / Diary pics on plainer backgrounds as well? [grumble, grumble, mutter, mutter...more work for me...grumble, grumble etc  ;D]

fred.

Yeah, pull your finger out Harwood !  :P

Again a huge volume of figures in a couple of days. Is the red and white scheme a historical one, or a looks good one? I always like red and white halves or quarters - my first Human Fantasy army was in red and white, far too many years ago.

 ;D You're right mate - what a slacker!

The colour scheme here owes more to Kingdom of Heaven (Ridley Scott, Orlando Bloom & the delectable Eva Green) than historical sources...unashamedly wanting some Hollywood WMA action on my table  8)

Rob

Nick you show just what is possible to the rest of us. My painting is ssooooooooooh painfully slow, and is OK for WW2/khaki stuff but decidedly average for bright uniform periods.

I've looked at your wiki painting guide which seems to be the method you have used here. I was wondering would you change anything such as the priming if you were doing a Napoleonic army?

Cheers  :)

Nosher

Shame I'm not able to make Nikfest this year - we could have a massive Crusader scrap with our joint Crusader/Saladin armies.

Dont tell Leon but mine are MM :-[ However they did get bought as a present!

Thanks Rob - too kind  :)

I painted my Naps using exactly the same process - although that was years ago & I've speeded up  & refined my techniques since then; the only thing I *might* vary - depending on colour scheme - would be to do a grey overbrush [instead of brown] onto the black undercoat - I did this with my SYW Austrians with their white uniforms [have a look here: http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,709.0.html ]

Shocker mate - but don't worry, I'm sure your secret's safe. It's not like you've broadcast it on the internet or anything.

Oh.  ;D
