Are you a seasonal gamer?

With the rather lovely Spring weather we have been having in Bristol over the past week or so, I have had little or no inclination to do anything gaming related. Now I know this may seem heresy to some, but let me explain a bit more.

I'm a Senior modelmaker for a design company and so spend each and everyday making models from scratch. When it is especially busy, as it is at present, the last thing I want to do when I get home is do more modelmaking or painting. I also rarely get to see much daylight as our workshop has little natural light as we are surrounded by tall buildings that cut most of it out.

Given that I spend most of my day 'in the dark', I love to get outside when the weather is nice. My other great passions are gardening and walking, so at this time of year, these tend to come to the fore, especially in Spring. Mother Nature does not wait and she can be a cruel mistress.

Conversely, with the onset of Autumn, all things gaming related come to the fore again as the nights draw in and the garden needs little if any attention. I feel in the mood again to want to spend more time painting, making scenery and gaming when time allows.

So the question is, are any of you also Seasonal Gamers or am I on my own?

You are certainly not on your own.  ;)

When the weather's nice, you'll catch me riding my Beachcruiser.

TANK POLO? God, how our gardener hated that game!

I, like many here I'm sure, dress up in silly cloths and hit and shoot people in the great outdoors.

Summer is the reenactment season so I tend to be out running(well these days strolling) in to battle.

Once the evenings draw in it is time to pick up the dice again.

Ooo I used to be a member of the Dark Ages Society. Sadly, living in the West Coast of Ireland, there`s absolutely nothing like this anywhere. In fact, I think the Sealed Knot (who had a small group up country) is no longer going in Ireland either.

Ah it’s a sad life. I’ll just have to continue putting on my Gladiator outfit and keep frightening people on street corners and in the pubs.....

Don't remind me of re-enactment chaps. Not much call for a Polish lancer on shetland. Really miss it.

Six what type do you portray - sorting out a murmillo and thraex for taking into schools. Just need to sort out a sica. Went from Ermine street guard to Quinta Gallorum, then to 15th century, then napoleonic light infantry then French guard cavalry. Doin vikings in schools at the moment too.

haha, I don`t think it`s either Maenoferren. Looks more like something from Brad Pitt inTroy (Greek). It was originally a costume from a stage hire shop, which I took as a joke after watching that classic episode of Only Fools and Horses, where Rodders dresses up as a Gladiator and Cassandra dresses up as a Police Woman. Only problem was, I kept the costume so long - totally forgot I had it, I ended up having to buy it in the end lol.

:D

The best thing about light evenings and fine weather is that it encourages my regular opponents to climb on their two-wheeled hogs and come to my place, rather than relying on me to drive over to them. :-h
When you realise we're all mad, life makes a lot more sense.

Biking and running for me.  And taking my daughter out to watch sunsets at the lake, she loves that.  Modelling becomes a post 9pm thing.  Gaming goes to Friday and Saturday evenings.

I think I'm actually more productive in the summer...I know I certainly plan more stuff - sitting out on the decking, watching the kids play in the garden...or walking / cycling to the beach running lists through my head  :)

It's also nice to be able to sit outside & assemble figures...although I'll never paint outside. As for gaming, little enough of that gets done although I have had some cracing outdoor games in the past - these are a couple of WW2 desert games with Dean in his garden a couple summers ago:

One of my coolest wargames experiences was playing BKC with counters on the beach during a break from surfing with my brother-in-law...in Cornwall, in the sun, with beer. It was tres coolio. And you should have seen the chicks...chicks love wargaming surfers  ;D <)

well as it is still light at midnight in the high summer, I cant paint anything after it gets dark as I am too tired, plus it is only really dark for about one and a half hours
