On table mortars

Hi,

I've never used on table arty in CWC. I've read the rules but I'm unclear on how to use them. The 2S1 Govzdika stat line says 3 AP and 3 AT (but no range!). If I read page 49 (following the logic that on table arty follows the same rules as infantry guns), then they can fire at enemy units within their own LOS,or the LOS of a friendly that is within 20cm of the command that issued the order to fire. It then goes on to say all targets must be within range of the IG (or in this case on table arty). So......unlimited range? and is there a minimum range for on table arty?

Also do I need to buy arty assets like I would for off table arty?

You have probably stumbled on a bit of errata. All ontable units need a range so should be something like 3/100H or similar.

I dont have my book with me, but if you check the online armylists, the Soviet was updated reasonably recently. It should have the right stats. Failing that, if you can find another list with a similar mortar, it will give you the range. But I will respond over the weekend when back at my desk.

Ontable mortars work like other ontable units. They have HE as standard, but if you want Smoke or Chemical etc. You buy it as Assets.
They are often Independant unuts so have an unlimited initiative distance. They can be ordered to fire on LoS or LoF, but in the latter case the ordering HQ/CO must have LoS to the target. Note: FAOs only order offtable units.
Also they dobt shoot templates on table, but just hit the unit they are targetting. But they can be ordered to shoot multiple times, with sucessful orders.
