Hi all,
After another game section, more questions about CA are raised.

A. First scenario.
A CA is carried out against a suppressed infantry unit during the Command phase.
Near the defending unit, there is an Infantry support unit that has LOS to the assaulting unit. This Infantry support unit has previously fired against a moving unit, so it's marked Opportunity Fire.

What can do the Infantry support unit during this CA?

It can fire against the assaulting unit and then support the defending unit during the CA or it can ONLY support the defending unit because it has previously fire as Opportunity fire.

B. Second scenario
An infantry unit would like to Close Assault an entrenched gone to ground infantry. The assaulting unit is at 7cm from the entrenched one, so it cannot see it, so no CA in the Initiative phase is possible as well as no CA in Command phase.
In this situation, is it possible to give the order "advance to contact" to the infantry unit? Or firstly we must order the infantry unit to move at 5cm, at this point the entrenched infantry is visible and then, after as new successful order, the Close Assault can be carried out.

C. Third scenario
A BMP1 with a mounted infantry unit is in distance to CA an enemy infantry unit in the open, but between the two there is a wall. Therefore, the BMP1 cannot see the enemy infantry. In this situation is possible to order "advance to contact"?

Best regards,
Fabio

A quick reply, as I am away and dont have my rules book in front of me.
However, one basic point.

There is no such thing as "advance to contact" it is a fundamental element of the rules that you cannot advance nearer than 5cm to an enemy unit, unless you are declaring a Charge/Assault.
NB: there are occasions when you can end up closer than 5cm, but that is usually not a voluntary situation.
So you need to ensure that your advancing unit moves up to 5cm - when the enemy becomes 'visible' then it can be ordered to make an assault.

I'll come back to you on the other points on Monday - when I have the actual rules wording in front of me.
Cheers

QuoteHi all,

It can fire against the assaulting unit and then support the defending unit during the CA or it can ONLY support the defending unit because it has previously fire as Opportunity fire

It can Fire against the Assaulting Unit (this is not Opportunity Fire) and it can also Support the friendly unit being assaulted. In both cases it must be within 10cm of the unit being assaulted and have a clear LoS. The fact that it has already fired using Opportunity Fire is irrelevant.

B. Second scenario
An infantry unit would like to Close Assault an entrenched gone to ground infantry. The assaulting unit is at 7cm from the entrenched one, so it cannot see it, so no CA in the Initiative phase is possible as well as no CA in Command phase.

No, there is no such thing as 'Advance to Contact' in CWCII - especially as the enemy unit is not visible. It will take two actions (either a move of 2cm as an Initiative action or a successful Commanded order) to move the unit to 5cm. At this point the G2G enemy unit becomes visible and an assault can be declared.

C. Third scenario
A BMP1 with a mounted infantry unit is in distance to CA an enemy infantry unit in the open, but between the two there is a wall. Therefore, the BMP1 cannot see the enemy infantry. In this situation is possible to order "advance to contact"?

No - there is no such thing as 'Advance to Contact'.
But are the enemy infantry right up close to the wall? If they are further back (over 5cm behind the wall), the BMP can move (as an Initiative or Commanded action), stop at the wall and the infantry passengers can dismount, which is 1 action as the BMP is a 'mechanized' unit. In the next order the BMP & dismounted infantry can be ordered to assault the enemy infantry. The wall offers them protection from enemy Opportunity Fire between orders.
If the enemy infantry are up close to the wall, then they are not in the open and the wall will provide them with cover in an assault.
