Another good 'un Steve. And featuring more images than you can shake a stick at (well, 51 anyway).  :)

I don't know if that's an actual number (to be fair I don't even know whether the phrase "more than you can shake a stick at" is just a Northern saying anyway). Oh well - the pictures were much appreciated anyhow.

From looking at the different way the two players give their orders (one seems very detailed, the other quite high level) - how does this help (or hinder) you in playing out the battle?

Thanks Chaps :).

@ Fred. There are quire a few e-mails flying back and forth in the background, so the intent is very much gleaned from those and a more condensed versions is shown on the Blog. Norm knows the rules so can go more high level as it were, due to an understanding of how things may need to change as the action unfolds. Jon in contrast doesn't know the rules, so tends to give a more detailed account of what he would like to happen, which I then advise upon etc. Both have their merits and for me, both are equally easy to play. Hope that helps?

Having more email conversations makes sense - I had assumed (wrongly) that the picture with the orders was the totality of all you got. Then you went with those orders.

We played (or tried to play) a few PBEM games last year but struggled a bit - I don't think we delegated enough to the host / umpire and tried to do too many interactive things, which just slowed the game down. Your approach seems much more practical.

Yes fantastic looking table  :-bd

Isn't the SCW sometimes seen as what WW2 was generally thought would be like? If you take that at face value it's really WW2 so not another period, just a early theatre of WW2  :D

I agree. The SCW is definitely not a "new period" and thus you are fully entitled to build your SCW forces, secure in the knowledge that it is really just a (very) early WW2 campaign/theatre.

I tend to think of it as the Battalion commanders coming up with a plan and then briefing the company commanders etc. After that it is a case of managing things as the game unfolds. No plan survives contact with the enemy and all that!

Certainly this way it is easier as the host/umpire simply implements the orders as best they can. No need to stop the game, ask players for decisions etc. The KISS principle works for me!

Table terrain is also very photogenic.
