The July 2021 Wish List of Nobby

I was pondering today whether the Wurttemberg Grenadiers would do for the Danish grenadiers and I thought I would put together a "wish list" for Pendraken. Just for giggles, and I realise some of the entries may be a bit niche. They also reflect my current interests so this time next year it will probably be cyber warriors and electro-ninjas. With all that in mind and in no particular order here we go:

1. Swedish Army, Napoleonic Wars
We have the Russians and the Prussians and the Austrians but we are missing this unusual combatant of the Leipzig Campaign. The round hats and the unusual off-set crests make proxies a bit difficult. However, those round hats could be used for British Marines.

2. Korean War British, Tropical Kit, SMG
We have the winter kit with Sten, but not the tropical kit.

3. Morris tow for Airborne 17pdr
Although the 2pdr portee (BRV100) may be a suitable case for conversion.

4. Chariot Armies
Egyptians, Hittites, Assyrians, Mycenaeans, etc, etc.

5. Trees, roads and railways
I'm basically lazy. I'd like to buy everything from Pendraken. Some more scenery would be a welcome addition. (I also feel a bit disloyal when I buy from anywhere but Pendraken.)

6. Harnessed horses
Since 2021 is Nobby's Year of Napoleonics,  I've been painting a fair few  limbers. Sometimes 4 horses aren't enough, so I'd like to see a pack of harnessed horses.

7. More flags!
Could we have some more flags for the Nappies? Brunswick, Bavaria etc. I've printed off my own, but as I have said, I'm basically lazy and want it handed to me on a plate.

8. Swedes, 1970-80's
S-tank (need I say more), we haven't had a Centurion variant for simply AGES and the Panzerbandvagn 301.

9. Cassions
The Napoleonic British have an ammunition wagon. 'bout time the other armies were also so equipped.

10 Monks and nuns
These folk are a great cross-period addition as bystanders, medics, targets, cheerleaders. Yes, we have some armed monks, but some unarmed ones would be quite useful ... and we are nun-less that is to say nuns - none. Not nine, none.

There we have it my 10 requests for July 2021.

This ignores the stuff I know is in progress ...  like the Japanese castle.

Surely we have more Meso-Americans than any rational person could need?  :-\

Ferrets and Landies we have, Scimitars we have, Scorpions we have.  :D

Absolutely agree about the 432, the Chieftain is a bit modern for my taste. I'd add the Abbot as well. Maybe a Stalwart, definitely a Bedford RL 3 tonner.

For the Korean war british in tropical , could you not use the Sten in slouch hat?
After all when I do the 14th army (project for 2025) I will be using the Korean war stuff in tropical kit as proxies for most of the stuff

Barely scratched the surface. There's the Maya for instance, that would be good. Few bits to fill in the Zapotec and Mixtec. The Toltec. Teotihuacan. Then don't forget North and South America. The Inca would be nice...

Following the spirit of the OP for "slightly obscure but not" items,  it would be nice to have some medieval longbowman stakes.

NOT the type sold by certain other purveyors of shiny metal where the lads have to line up behind a neat little garden fence of single or double row pointy sticks, but proper 5ft jobs (1 in the ground) planted in chequerboard or scattered pattern as per Henry V instructions. "one in front and one behind each man"  such that one is also between each .

Sometime this year I want have to build 8 80*40 bases like that.  Yes I know I can push cocktail sticks or whatever into milliput before I base the figures but I'll look about for some approximate first.

PS does anyone know how the originals were hammered into the ground without flattening the pointy bit with the mallets?   :-/

Oh yes

and archers with mallets   :D

You hammer them in, then sharpen them!!!

+1 for 1813 Swedes.
Means you can do the 1807 Swedish Russian War
And the Anglo-Swedish War (0  battles, 30 casualties, all Swedish civilians, all caused by Swedish cavalry during a riot).

Technically its a maul, and the handle was often 5-6 feet long, like a modern day sledgehamer.

No wonder they made such a mess of armoured men at arms.

The initial pointy bit was driven downwards into the ground.
Once secured, they sharpened the top end.

(Probably with a gigantic pencil sharpener, or something).

But seriously almost ever medieval army took a load of wood workers along for little maters such as river crossings, sieges, and fortifying camps.
The woodworkers had the tools.

Not too sure about about nuns, but if they look like Audrey Hepburn (bit hard in 10mm) I'm in!! :D

Righty then, I'll work through those!

1. Swedish Army, Napoleonic Wars

I'm not sure when we'll get to this one, it comes up every now and then but I'm not sure it's viable.  We know a company who do them in 28mm and sales are virtually zero.

Quote from: fsn on 04 July 2021, 10:24:31 AM
2. Korean War British, Tropical Kit, SMG

I think we might have this on a list for Korean extras sometime later this year.  We managed to miss a few obvious things with the original release that need rectifying.

Quote from: fsn on 04 July 2021, 10:24:31 AM
3. Morris tow for Airborne 17pdr

This'll be a Request List job I think, and we'll see where/how it does with extra votes.

Quote from: fsn on 04 July 2021, 10:24:31 AM
4. Chariot Armies

This one would be a wider Ancients expansion project, so once we're done with the moderns we'll go back and get the Indians and Macedonians done, then we've finished the revamping and can look at new ranges instead.

Quote from: fsn on 04 July 2021, 10:24:31 AM
5. Trees, roads and railways

I'm always tempted to try trees again but they're so cheap to buy on eBay that I'm not sure if it's viable for us.  The roads are already on the cards and I've got one of the laser designers working on a selection of bases.  It'll just be road-shaped bases that you pop some texture and paint on, it that's OK with everyone?

Railways are possible in MDF but the attempts we've had so far aren't quite right for me.  The tracks need to be separate to the sleepers but then they stand too far proud due to the MDF thickness so we're doing some tests with different methods/cut ins to try and find something better.

6. Harnessed horses

Easy one, we can supply as many of these as folks need.  Do you want them adding to a specific range or just popping in the Animals as another horse option?

Quote from: fsn on 04 July 2021, 10:24:31 AM
7. More flags!

I've got more flags on my own To-Do list, starting with all of the ACW ones and then some more Naps.

Quote from: fsn on 04 July 2021, 10:24:31 AM
8. Swedes, 1970-80's

Definitely on the list, we're just waiting on the next batch from Martin.

Quote from: fsn on 04 July 2021, 10:24:31 AM
9. Caissons

Good timing on that one, I've got a customer who's wanting all of the artillery wagons/limbers/caissons for the major Naps nations so I've put him in touch with one of our straightline guys to sort that out.  I'm not expecting to see anything until early next year but at least it's in hand.

Think you have the basis of the 15cwt tow - the airbourne one is a converted portee. Dont think any ammo lockers were fitted just loaded in transport boxes.
