What is the best 'out of the pot' colour for US tanks in Tunisia?

As far as I know the Americans didn't repaint their vehicles for Op Torch so I'd use Vallejo US Olive Drab 70.887.  There are photos of mud smeared onto vehicles sometimes in N Africa.  It appears significantly lighter than the paintwork so Khaki Grey 70.880 would probably work.  My advice would be to give them a wash of Umber Wash 73.203 (I usually thin it with water about 50/50) and then dry-brush them with Khaki Grey to give a dusty effect.  Markings, stars etc were yellow for Op Torch.

The stars were supposed to be yellow, but some were white. The basic colour would indeed be olive drab, with no cammo. The armoured divisions had had Shermans but these were pulled and repalced with Lees, the Shermans going to the 8th Army.

Bet that made the US crews happy.

Only one regiment, and even the Germans admitted the M3 was superior to the vast bulk of their tank park!

Heedless Horseman

OD..with mud and dust. Some vehicles began to have 'applied mud' camo... sometimes quite 'arty'!
I find the 'early' markings a nice 'change' from the later ... or lack of.
Another 'project' that has never got started.  :(

I've two of Skytrex's Grants for my not yet started 15mm 14th Army project.

I bought them when they closed, as it looked iffy that they'd reopen.

They're still in their baggies, and Skytrex are now not only open but a part of Warlord and expanding :D
