How about  separate shields for conversions? Doubt that individual types would be practical, but 'mixed bag' of Kite, Heater, Large round, smaller round, Hoplite.

'Celtic variants' and 'Roman variants'... not so useful as actual figures there... but...

Would have to be pretty 'thin' to fit, though! Just a thought!

Phil PLEASE DONT, the Sparabatha sheilds are bad enough but trying to superglue Heaters or smaller woiuld be murderous. It's a nice idea but not practical.

I know where you're coming from, Ian.  .....My guess is that in most cases the 'best way' to swap shields would be to completely obliterate an existing shield, so there's a flattish surface to stick the replacement shield to. The same sort of 'filing' or 'burring away' would probably be necessary, simply add a shield onto a bare hand.

It may be something that Leon might fancy me doing, if there's a big enough demand.

The TB line figures come with separate shields. Bit of a pain to attach!

I have tried it as a trial in the past. Yes, the old shield has to be 'removed'. Some extra filing, etc. may be required... esp. if new kit is smaller / larger.... or 'to fit'.
For attachment, I used a very fine drill bit in a pin vice and 'pinned' new shield to fig. The protruding bit of pin turned into a boss with a dab of glue!
It CAN work ok... depends on the pose.
However, the really annoying part was trying to cut plastic card to shape. Multiple fails... and lack of edging strips made the trial figs 'look odd' when mixed with other castings.

All VERY fiddly! It was a 'trial', anyway. Full units would be 'dedication'! But  'head swaps'... or adding minute neck protection or visors...! 

For Historical armies, the odd fig might be a useful addition to a base... and position on the base could provide 'protection' / 'hide blushes' ! Given the vast ranges of figs available, well, it is a 'maybe'! However, there are poses that I, personally, just don't like... that running 'flat out' pose esp. ! So scope for a few variations.

Reason I am querying is that I am considering Fantasy 'Game Of Thrones' proxy forces...(VERY gradually working on one fig at a time... little bit of filing/drilling, etc. while trying to get my clapped out computer to 'fire up'! ).  Figs that I like the thought of using include Samurai... and they would need kite, or other, shields!
There are several other possible figs for various armies... ECW , etc. but some don't have shields or would 'need' a replacement.

Not a 'big seller', but pack of 'mixed' types 'could' be a boon to anyone considering this sort of stuff...and so might buy figs if kit available?

Get some Milliput..and make the shields, as flats, on a piece of Plasticard/dead credit card/whatever.... then peel/snap them off when the Milliput has set.

I sometimes really worry about you lot.

So true! I am awaiting some 'Mounted Plains Indians with Tomahawk' and 'Kneeling Aztec Commoner Bowmen'... plus 'Unicorns!'  
Theory is... could drill hand of Plains Indian to take an 'Arrak' bent and flattened from a fine brush bristle.
The Aztec fella 'could' be debased and 'pinned'... (rather painfully!)... onto a de-horned Unicorn... though Horse 'tack' would  also need to be added.

Then, would only need 9,998 'Dothraki Screamers' to do.  

DON'T know whether I will get round to trying... but a possible concept!  

Mollinary: The 'Casualty Marker' is an excellent idea! So... ?

One of my favourite things about 10mm, is not having to deal with components like shields or individual horses and riders.

Don't even get me started on 28mm plastics.
Price of an old metal, and they expect you to glue 12 bits together for each figure.

One of my next aspirational projects was to do some 10mm plasticcard / greenstuff shields and swords as dressing for dungeon walls. My last project was some torches that did not come out too badly. But lazy as I am i would be in the market for ready made shields (and torches)
