The army was a bit cheered up when Khusroes was shot by the artillery on round two. Roman victory eventually.

Bad start to the battle; Chosroes challenged me to single combat, and I failed to consider what the combination of lance, horse armour, and an elite rating implied. I hit him with a dart on the way in, but it bounced off all that tin foil.

The terrain, however, was a great help this time; a flank covered by a big river, a castle to the fore with archers on the walls (and a cavalry unit waiting in the courtyard, though in the event they never emerged), and a defensible ridge. If I'd not got crummy control rolls which prevented me from deploying my artillery in time, it would have been a lay down.

Rapid payback; the King of Kings died on round two as the marine support opened up with catapults; support from the castle walls routed the Persian guards cavalry too.

ROMANS have the upper hand in a cavalry scrap???? And the cherry on the top was the fact that the Persian levies decided at this point to loot the camp and leg it (shouting "Persian levies matter!"). Prince Shapur stopped a dart from a legionary sharpshooter, but that was a bonus at this stage.
