Had a play with basing for the Dragoons, I'm liking the look of the 3,2,1 basing* even more.

One advantage of working from home Is that I was able to do the above during a rather long call early this afternoon. But as I only managed 10mins for lunch, it hardly feels like slacking!

At least someone got it  ;)

French Infantry

Just did a bit of painting this evening, but I'm glad I did. Started on the various accoutrements of the French infantry. Did a fair bit of googling the other day to find pictures to determine the colours of each bit, as they certainly carry a lot, and some of the colours were surprising.

Does anyone know what the item is on the back left hand side of these chaps, the item still white? I suppose I really want to know what colour to paint it.

The firing troops have a small pouch in a similar place - again any ideas on colours?

And finally the sergeants seem to have a gourd or bottle any thoughts on colours for that?

Thanks in advance!

Is the back left item the a sabre/bayonet frog? In which case it's white.

The gourd I think would be yellow/tan

Ta, the gourd is spot on for what the Sergeant has.

I'm not sure that it is the bayonet frog - the bayonet is further round at the side of the figure. It's also only on this 1 pose, of the 3 I have. I looks quite like a WWII british water bottle.

Black was my default - on a dark blue coat they become pretty much invisible.

Considering the number of drawings and photos around it's a little surprising that these things aren't known

The only other thing I thought it could be would be a bread bag?

I don't think its a bread bag - looks too small.

But that drawing has what looks like a water bottle below, the bread bag, and it could be that. The problem with all of this, is that it is a very small piece of sculpting, and I can see it more clearly in the photos than directly...

Spotted this picture

which looks like what is sculpted on - so a brown water bottle - I could have stuck with my British WWII water bottle, then..

I'm thinking I might use this drawing as the basis for my figures, now I look at it further

Plume - yellow with green top
Epaulets - yellow
Colours - yellow

Cuffs - red, with white vertical button strip
Turnbacks - white

Which is good, as I haven't painted any of that wrong yet (except perhaps the collar, which might well be in the too small to bother with camp...)

Lord Kermit of Birkenhead

That plume is for one of the specialist companies Fred, Light I think, with the Grenadiers having red and line white (I think anyway). If I remember I'll look it up in von Pifka. It does show how little blue was visible. Another cheat, shakos were often covered with a black brown or sand coloured cover, plumes removed. Thats how my 15mm line were painted .
Look OK honest (And NO PHIL NO PHOTYS)

Yep, I'm painting these as Voltigieurs so I'm pretty sure yellow plume is correct.

Hordes of War - Ogres vs Herd

Another game over video link, back to our home brew rules, and another great game, very close until the end, when my Ogres roughed it out to force the Herd to flee

Forgot to take photos until rather late in the game - so much carnage has already ensured so there are a lot of gaps on the battlefield. For ease of identification my Ogres have snowy bases and blue wound dice.

The very end, Ogres dominant

The red ogres on the left have charge down hill to destroy the already wounded two units of beastmen who are just on the edge of shot. Leaving just a couple of commanders on that flank.

In the middle the Ogre Guard beat of a flank charge by some eagles, a frontal charge be some Headusmen and then charged in to kill off the minotaurs, that had been embroiled in a long slugging match with my War Trolls.

At the back left the Beastmen archers manoeuvred ineffectually, much as they had done for the whole game! These and the Shamen with the bull's head totem where the only Herd forces left at this point. Facing off against several Ogre combat units.

Looks ace

Thanks Will, it was a good game.

Peninsular French

Finally got these guys finished (well I'd done so many different colours on different bits of kit, I decided there couldn't be any more to do...)

Still need to decide how to flock the bases to represent Spain. Suggestions appreciated.

Edit: that's not the best picture is it? Rather over lit.
