Should rules distinguish between cataphracts and kittenaphracts?

Thought EHC were 1/2 armoured, or with none metallic armour (ie Assyrians), SHC were in full metal armour, then there were EHK, and SHK.....

Maybe the question should be "How many weights of cavalry is too many?"

Much will depend on your era of warfare.
But if light and heavy is sufficient for your chariots, and Indian and African is sufficient for your elephants, I struggle to see why 7 or 8 grades of horseman are really necessary.

My experience of Napoleonics shows a correlation of "More cavalry weights" => Worse rules.
