What a life! One of my all time favourite films is 'Vikings' and 'Paths of Glory' is superb and he resisted Kubrick changing the ending to have the soldiers spared.

For me, his best film was "7 Days in May". That perfectly caught the paranoia of the Cold War.

Homourable mention to "Tough Guys" (again with Burt Lancaster) which showed he could still twinkle at 73.

I will toss in "The Heroes of Telemank" (oblifgatory Bank Holiday viewing when I was a child), "The Final Countdown", "The Vikings (we laughed at that), "The Young Man with the Horn" (steady, lads), and "Saturn 3" with Farrah Fawcett (I said - steady, lads).

Hi FK,

I am going to do something I don't think I have ever done before, recommend Wikipedia, and defend Steve J in the same post!  The wiki entry on Paths of Glory quotes two sources to support this story. Do you have any to refute it?
