Acw base sizes and amount of figs

Hi all ,it's  been a while and I've finally got time to build my ACW armys that I bought a few years back.
I'm planing on doing regimental fire and fury so could do with a little help.
Which size base for the infantry and how many figs on each , thanks a lot

All my ACW are on 1" square bases, I have between 5 and 8 infantry per base, spread out and dispersed like a ragged firing line or charge, 2 cavalry per base (3 is a bit too tight), and 1 gun and 3-4 crew.

Could try 3, anyway. My Pendraken SYW cavalry are mounted 3 to a base on 1" square bases. As the following link reveals, men & horses in real life are often shown to be more closely packed than we wargamers can manage with our stubby fingers.

On the other hand, given that you'll probably have to paint up a dismounted version of each cavalry unit (plus a dismounted marker),  2 cavalry per base will be a faster way to get your troops on the table.   :)
I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.

My ACW infantry are 4 to a 25x15mm base in a single ragged line. Cavalry are 2-3 mounted on a 25x25mm base; 3 dismounted on a 25x15mm base.

I go 5 to 7 infantry or 2 cavalry on a 25mm square base. The square base allows easy transformation from marching column to line and the varying numbers of infantry gives a slightly irregular look to the formation which is what I want.

Thanks everyone,ive just bought the 25/25 bulk buy. I'm doing regimental fire and fury, so 1inch will do the trick with four to a base.
Next comes the hard work, I'll put some photos up when finished. I'tll be a while.

40mm x 25mm for infantry (8mm frontage per figure - 10 to a base in two ranks).

Last Hussar

30mmm square with 6 to 8. I use different poses, and a ragged line of 4 with figures behind.
