I'm looking for opponents for my late romans (apart from Sassanid Persians) and drawing a blank. Any suggestions for figures to represent Goths or Huns as I'm drawing a blank ?

Another non-Pendraken suggestion would be Copplestone's "not-Riders of Rohan, no sirree!" range as Ostrogoths

Thank you both - sample figs duly requested, OG are a bit of a conundrum with no website photos and not sending sample figs I cant purchase. Ithoriel thats inspired - Copplestone would never have occurred to me and look spot on to what I'd imagined
Consider me unblanked !

I use some of those Copplestone cavalry as Alan mercs in my medieval Byzantines; they're excellent figures.

As for the bits and pieces in the barbarian hordes, they are strangely under-represented. In my own recently finished Hun army, I used mainly MM and Pendraken Pict horse as Goths and Gepids; Baggage Train has some Gothic horse too. Sarmatians - if you've been following this forum that shouldn't be a problem. The Pendraken Mongols make good Hun LC. The difficult one was the Franks, whom both sides used without realising what a genie was in that bottle. I ended up using MM Irish axemen, cutting the axe-shaft short, sticking on a cloak and shield, filing off a lot of the hair, and relying on the distinctive axe and the iconic horizontally-striped tunics to get them past muster. I included some Baggage Train Gothic foot for a wilder look (since the figures have only round shields, they don't say "Goth" very loudly to my ears), but it was a labour-intensive task.

I don't drink coffee to wake up. I wake up to drink coffee.

By the way, Baggage Train make a lot of pretty shield transfers for late Romans. Be aware that these are scaled to their own figures, and don't fit Pendraken late legionaries.

Thanks for the tips FK - thats a shame about the shield transfers, thought they were a winner as it states on their site that they 'will fit a wide range of 10mm figures other than the Ten High range' - bugger I'll just have to paint them
Hadnt spotted Pendraken Picts, theyll work, how do they measure up with Copplestone cavalry ?
You're right Sarmatians/Dacians will soon be covered, maybe in time for Salute  ;) and various Mongols for Hun light cav
As with all these projects, half the fun is in the research
BTW Baggage Train have a range of Hun cav - but no photos yet !

I'm very happy with the proxy Mongol figures. Pend. Picts and Copplestone Rohirrhim close enough for my eyes, but I'm used to being 10" taller at least than everyone else in the lift....

If the quality of OG sculpts for the Zulu War is anything to go by, I'd hold off on that one. It was downright disappointing.

Hmm... I've been advised similarly about their Goths, its obviously sculptor dependant as their Naps I have are good, but maybe thats why there are very few photos available

Same with my SYW Prussians. Very nicely sculpted and paint up well. The late Republican Romans also look good on the website, but the later medievals/early Renaissance appear very poor on the website and are firmly knocked into a cocked hat by the Pendraken sculpts.

Not quite as extensive, but LBM studios made some gorgeous tiny versions of their LR shields specifically to fit the Pendraken range.

My brain has gone completely awol this morning.

What was that range that Will (Mad Lemmey) got me to make ?

Would those be any good as 'proxies' ?

(Probably not.  :-[)
