In Scotland we have ABE ... Anyone But England ... probably for similar reasons. Although, to the best of my knowledge, Australia has never actually invaded New Zealand!

I can't abide football. Never watch it. Will probably not listen to the news for the next month to avoid the whole wretched business.

However, I do find history interesting, and my favourite podcast did a World Cup Special.

So, if you want to know why Austria didn't play in the 1938 World Cup (and I'm guessing most of you can work it out) and why England refused to take their place listen to episode 221 of "No Such Thing as a Fish" (from the QI Elves)

Yep, I got them as well. However, I'm not putting to much faith in them after today's somewhat lacklustre performance. I know the Icelandies are a fearsome lot who are coming into their own on the world footballing stage but really? Messi, Aguero, di Maria, Rojo, Mascherano et al coucln't break them down. Obviously I would like them to improve  (but not too much because I still want England or Germany to win. It's all in the genealogy don't you know).
