Don't know about a Dave, but Google says Danish. But then Google's hardly reliable, so they're probably Japanese.

In any group of 4 or more men there will be a Dave.  Once the group reaches 7 or 8 there will be 2 Daves.  one of these will be called 'Big Dave'.

Surprisingly amongst my regular wargaming opponents, and there are considerably more than four, there isn't a single Dave. Similarly in my walking group there is no Dave.
