I come across odd photos on the net daily, as you do, I thought I'd share a few and see if anyone else has some to share?

When Japan invaded Egypt with just 25 Samurai

I believe these are US rangers putting on warpaint?

German cavalry with lance, looking sharp

Somewhere in Bristol?  Let me know if its still there!

Ah! I see you're a man after my own stripe!

I will add completely silly (but vaguely military) photos here whenever I see them.

WWI listening devices are a good bet.

By their haircuts, they're Mexican cuachicqueh - the ones who had taken six prisoners but had refused promotion, since they preferred fighting to commanding. They frequently wore paint, but I admit this uniform is a variant I hadn't seen before.

Later, you mad, passionate fool!

;D They both do look rather happy about the whole thing!

How do we know this isn't a 5'8" German surrendering to a 3'4" Polish paratrooper?

So a variant of Aztecs?

I think they are pathfinders for 101st airborne, probably the day before D-Day.

Doesn't seem to have thought through the whole gas-mask thing. The gas-mask might protect him from the gas, but when the horse gets gassed, he's going to have big fall!

Hadn't thought of that. Quite right.

Thats fascinating, I would have guessed the building in the newer pic was georgian from the 18th C or so, but nope!

Brilliant. 1) They'll send you home on a psycho discharge ticket; 2) if you have to stay, at least you've got company; 3) and who'd shoot at you like that, or hit you while laughing?

While he looks strange, this is one of the famous Schlachtkatzenwerfers. The device around his neck which appears to be a gas mask is the actual sling launcher. The Battlecat is first placed on the helmet so it can acquire a target. I understand that the sound of an incoming battlecat invoked shear terror in the enemy!

Why is the Schlachtkatzenwerfer wearing only a nightshirt you may ask? battlecats were known to target anything in a uniform. His attire is to prevent the battle cat from seizing on him during the target acquisition phase. He holds a one pound bag of catnip in his left hand should the battle cat become confused about who is the enemy prior to launch.

Incidently the proximity of a Schlachtkatzenwerfer probably explains the attire of the four German soldiers in the prior picture

I thought that unit was developed by rebellious Austrians in response to the dreaded Maus AFV in the hope that they would be treated by the Allies as reluctant partners in the Reich.

You miss the point - the horse is saying "well it' not my fault. You know cabbage upsets me."

Pretty much everything in the 'today' photo is almost certainly post-war. That area was hit by the Luftwaffe in November 1940.

So let me get this straight. The principal boy is a man pretending to be a woman who is dressed as a man?
