Has anyone seen figures from the early war WW1 Pendraken, Kallistra and MM side by side? I don't know if the Early war Pendraken are new or old sculpts and I don't know how the various ranges match up with each other. I plan to assemble 10mm armies for both the French and Germans so any information is appreciated!

Kallistra is big (lets call them 12mm)
Pendraken and MM are similar in height (lets call them 10mm) but MM are chunkier.  I'm not sure I would mix Pendraken and MM on the same base, but in the same army seems to work.

The infantry and Cavalry of my 1914 French are MM, the guns and engineers are Pendraken

Dang Fred, I shuddered when I saw your photo of your French. The basing and organization is almost exactly as I plan to do! So far I picked up two brigade packs of French and Germans along with some cavalry and artillery. My battalions will be four bases with three figures per base, officers will be on separate bases and Cavalry will be two per base. What rules do you use?

So the Kallistra are that much bigger? Are the Pendraken Early War French, Germans and Belgians older or more recent sculpts? I will need High Command, casualties, artillery spotters and other nice units to flesh out my armies.

Spooky. My organisation and basing is the same as yours. Mine are for Great War Spearhead.

Kallistra are quite a bit bigger, my mate has their Germans. They are fine for different armies. Once the game is on you soon forget about differences in figure size.

Nice looking 1914 French Fred.

Streetgang - I came across the blog below while looking at different 10/12mm options for 1914 Belgians (which I will do one day). While it compares various ACW figures it gives you a idea of the sizes of the various 10/12mm manufacturers figures standing side by side.

Hope its of some use to you.

Cheers

This shows (L to R) Pendraken WWI Austrians, Pendraken WWI German hussar, Van Dyck Belgian infantryman, Irregular Belgian howitzer.

This shows (L to R)  Pendraken 10mm German field gun and crew, 10mm Irregular Belgian infantry (3 figures), a lone 12mm Van Dyck Belgian infantryman and a 12mm Kallistra Confederate infantryman. To my eye everything works well except the Kallistra figure.

Thanks Gents, I appreciate the feedback. The kallistra figure does tower over the rest of the field including the Van Dyck 12mm. My MM figures seem considerably bigger than the Pendraken counterparts in the WW1 range. I went ahead and ordered two sample packs of dismounted Dragoons and Uhlans (the big hole I need to fill) to see if I can get away (in my mind) with using them for my dismounted cavalry. I will make a post and include a picture when I get them.

That's interesting. Very informative picture.

Is it just me, or if the kneeling MM figure stood up, would he be considerably taller that the standing fellow?

I know you are Southern Welsh Techno, but you appear to be slipping into Southern States drawl? Let's leave that to dGuy, it's his territory after all!  ;) ;D

Interesting photo - I have MM WWI French and Pendraken French - I'd not noticed such a dramatic difference in size. Perhaps because I hadn't directly compared kneeling figures.

The MM ones are definitely a bigger build than the PD chaps - but at a size that would work together in the same army, if not the same base. But I'm surprised at how well MM fits with Kallistra which is good, as my mate went for Kallistra early war Germans to fight my French (if he ever gets them painted...)

We use Pendraken 10mm - and they're gorgeous! BUT, I do have a bttn of Kalistra 1914 Highlanders. They are huge and wouldn't mix into the same units at all.

Good reason never to do kneeling figures ever again.

I agree, Nobby....."Ho Yus", is not what I'd call a Southern States drawl......I'll catch Will out with one of my 'outrageeeeeous'  accents next time I speak to him.

I might try "Seth Effrican".....Or maybe ??..........

Anyway, getting back to the main point, there's quite a height difference, especially if you take into account the thickness of the base.

Poor wee Pendraken fellows, quite diddy compared to the Kallistra heafers.

I bought some Kallistra siege stuff, but abandoned the crew as being too Herculean to set alongside my Pendraken fellows.

Streetgang, thanks for posting the figure comparisons. These are incredibley helpful to have in the forum database. It would be nice to have a category to post them in put most of us lack thread discipline. Happily the search feature frequently finds them

Usually I share fsn's aversion to prone or kneeling figures but the LoA kneeling musketeer is the exception. Looks really good as a kneeling front rank.

I ha'int got no accent.

Once in southern Wales a guy (I think it was a guy) said to me: " yo'kin grub ta buk an brack som'it" (or words to that effect) - we were in a petrol station at the time with a large Volvo station wagon (if that helps with context).
Encumbered by Idjits, we pressed on

fsn

 ;D ;D ;D ;D Yers ... well that's Welsh humour for you. "Brack som't". Very good.

I have no antipathy to sculpts in a kneeling pose per se. I just find them somewhat odd when leading a column down a road, and would rather see advancing or marching figures.

The sounds more Black Country! But then it'd all be run together if it was, I guess... and preceeded by an "Awww".
