Gentlemen and Ladies,

Rather than muddy up the Pendraken forum with a poll that may not include Pendraken models, I am giving you the link to a poll on another forum. If you would  like to participate and we encourage you to please do so,  just indicate your vote in a note here and I will count it in. Public voting for this award has been a part of the GBnU Tournament since it went international 4 years ago.

Shortly, I will also be creating a poll for the best Stronghold which is also a public vote.

Thank you for helping us out.

Gawd awful set of photographs to be judged.

Fuzzier than a 3rd form teenagers chin.
My Ego forbids a signature.

fred.

I'm with Jim on that.

I'd go with Barker 4, but that's mainly because its one of the few that you can actually see the figures in (and the basing is good!).

Some of those 'armies' are astonishingly small.

Barker 6, purely because it has a Baba yaga's hut in it. And I can actually identify what everything is.

Terry37

Yes, I truly understand the quality of the pictures. In the emotion of the event, voting for and taking pictures of the winners at each Leg is a quick sort of thing. And it is tough to get all of an army in a single picture. So all we can ask is please do the best with what we have available.

Thanks,

Terryl

Terry,
I'm pretty much clueless about HoTT so hardly feel qualified to offer a vote, but in the spirt of the thing and to support your keen interest I would vote for Barker 1. Why? Because part of the horse unit(s) is carrying a House Tully banner.  :)

I like the Barker trophy BTW.

Bill, many thanks for your vote. You don't really have to know HotT to vote in this, as it comes down to who supplied me with a good picture, or what someone thinks makes an army look good/right. We have already insured the army met the qualifications to compete before the army was submitted. In other words, as you have done - pick the army you feel looks the best for what ever reason.

Thank you too for the comment re the Barker Award trophy. Phil and Sue Barker publish, and are two of the authors of HotT, so with their permission the Barker Award was created. In fact we let them name it (there is a tool in the game commonly called a "Barker Marker" for determining zone of control). The Bulldog seems the right symbol for an English set of rules and of course the "bark"er connection. I feel very honored that both Phil and Sue have been so much in support of this endeavor ever since it went international. These short videos may help you all to understand what GBnU is all about.

Sadly Ron Seaney, the fellow in the bright yellow shirt, passed away shortly after this video from a massive heart attack - age 51. We all miss him very much.

The GBnU is a HotT (Hordes of the Things) tournament that is played in 10 locations (called legs) and 4 countries, and is going into it's 10th year. HotT is a very gentlemanly game in that every game, win or lose is concluded with a handshake between the players. And it looks like we may have an 11th location sign up for this year as well. This years theme is Alien Invasion, that means an alien not of this earth. Should be a lot of fun.

9 for me, but no idea how to vote...

I think Terry's taking the votes we've put down here, Will......Then he's putting those on the 'poll', himself.

Cheers - Phil.

Terry37

d'Guy - I sure hope that doesn't  come to pass - videos replacing conversation. In this case I felt a few pictures were worth more than a thousand words.....and if you saw how I type, you'd be grateful!

Thank you Phil, yes that is how you all vote. You can cast your vote on Fanaticus where the poll resides if you are a member, or just tell me in a post here and when I gather all of the votes I will include yours.

I also want to say as the creator of this tournament I usually do not play in it unless there is an odd number for my Leg, and I also do not vote unless there might be a tie that my vote would break. Additionally I am never eligible for any prizes or awards. I usually fund it myself, but occasionally get help in that regard from some of the Coordinators or supporters.

Thank you for helping us with this important part of the tournament.

Terry, I know very little about DBA and its many derivatives. I have been looking for a PDF rules set for HoTT at all of the usual sources with no luck. Are you aware of a source (free or purchasable)?

d'Guy,

The DBX family is basically four or if you count DBACW 5 sets of rules, but they are all the same mechanicswith a few tweaks. The five being - DBA (which took a major hit when it went from 2.2 to 3.0 because it was such a major and dramatic change from what had become known as DBA), then HotT which is he fantasy version, but is my favorite because it can work for just abut any army, be it fantasy modern historical, space. Once you understand the, and grasp how to create armies it's an open door. And it is not a difficult set of rues to grasp. Then DBN, which is a Napoleonic set of DBA style gaming and the ones I use for my Napoleonic games. Then DBA-HX which is the Humberside mods that pick up where DBA stops at 1495 and takes you up to The Franco-Prussian War and the Sudan (I'll add a link to them below). Then there is DBACW which is put out by the same two guys who did DBN. It's a bit more complex than any of the others in that you have command qualities and troop experience - which are fine, but for me unnecessary.

Here si a link to a set of HotT 2.2, the most current set available from Amazon UK

https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/Books/Hordes-Things-Version-Phil-Barker/B00INYFTC4/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1485880874&sr=1-1&keywords=hordes+of+the+things

And in the US I found it from On Military Matters at the normal price.

http://onmilitarymatters.com/pages/dfsearch.php?term=keywords&data=hordes+of+the+things&submit=Search

I will tell you that all DBX gaming rule books include army lists which if one is just getting started are a BIG help. I use them still because they are fun lists, especially in HotT. For the other rule sets that are historical they are pretty fixed. But an army is usually only a small number of figures (normally around 50 at most), and basically about 12-14 stands or elements as they are called. There is a good following around the world for HotT and a very strong group there in he UK. In the US  as large as it is, the groups are more wide spread, but still there. A game lasts about an hour and is played on a 2 foot board. However, I have had some real marathon games that have gone for two hours,  but that's rare.

Here's the link to the DBA-HX mods, but you really need DBA to go with them. They were originally written to DBA 1.0, but I have written an update to bring them to DBA 2.2, which is my preferred version of DBA, and am happy to send it to anyone who might want it.

Hope this helps,
