Glad to know that others leave the cavalry right at the back of the queue. However, for 'The Pikemen's Lament' and 'Honours of War', they can't be avoided and have quite a lot to paint, which I'm not looking forward to.

Are you sure you're American? I thought you lot hadn't drunk tea since some minor fracas in Boston.
You obviously don't watch Grimm - those Oregon folk are always drinking tea. It also strongly advises (probably inadvertently) not to use the woods for recreational purposes.

We drink lots of tea here - iced tea -  which a bit further south is called Ah-c-tee - pronounced as one word like asti (Spumante).
Around here it's called Sweet Tea - it being supersaturated with sugar. It's rumored that our betters over in DC still drink it out of cups - hot!

I keep meaning to watch "Grimm" but have to paint horses.

Have finished off some more Monmouth stuff:

The Green Regiment:

A  "squadron" of Lord Grey's Horse (left) and the meager artillery train (right):

The usual blog post is here:

I now plan to move on to the West Country Militia (two foot regiments in red faced yellow and two in yellow faced red). Pixie is doing a bit of the Militia horse (as well as the rest of Greys horse). I have also decided to do the Tangier Horse. Yes I will have it in red faced blue at Sedgemoor - and hats to match the dismounted form, but I'm putting it in red coats faced white with lobster tail helmets to use at Tangier AND as West Country Militia.

Thanks, all!

I love the LoA castings! The scythmen have six different looks and are easily converted to pikemen. I think a couple, because of their caps, can me converted to Royal Army gunners also. Great figures.

Here is Monmouth's army essentially finished:

And since I want to probably do an alternate history campaign (Monmouth achieved surprise at Sedgemoor) I have bulked out his army with my collection of ad hoc militia and civilians:

And here:

There are some more pictures and some brief explaination at this blog post:

Smoking gun

Nice looking army, well worth the time and effort you've put into them.

Now they've knocked me down and taken it, that still hot and smoking gun.

I know why - getting the coat to look right, all those leather straps, stirrups, the mane, tail and lower legs, the white bits. It just goes on and on.

You are right - you are absolutely right! I've just come from painting more of them. Because there are three pairs of legs it is like painting three separate figures but without the same sense of accomplishment! I'm glad I don't work in a realm (usually) where the cavalry is mounted on spiders or - centipedes!  :o

I find making an assumption that everyone's tack is black, and using a black undercoat you can save a lot of faff for a very decent table top return ;)

Pixie and I are continuing to tag team what will be my armies at Sedgemoor and Killiecrankie.
He has just turned out Kirke's (1685)

Here is a link to the slideshow (I hope) of a few more shots of Pixie's Queen Dowager's Regiment;

Thanks, Nathan!

PS. The desicision not to reverse the coat colours of the drummer was mine (could have gone either way I think). Just don't want any blame to accrue to Pixie  :)

Reversed coat colours - I strongly suspect NOT using them for regiments in the field is correct (as opposed to "first full set of "parade" uniforms received and no ones shot the really obvious bloke with the drum and groovy coat yet" ;) ).
