That little Martian walker looks great! I'm not sure what damage a frame gun is likely to cause, even with a lucky shot. :(

As to the 17th century, the well know phrase, "if the only tool you own is a hammer, everything looks like a nail". Seems to apply.  :)
I am setting up the Battle of Benburb so it was available to show scale.

I have seen some of "The Great Martian War" on YouTube but have not watched it in any systematic way.

Yup, the frame guns would be useless (in the unlikely event of a hit the ball would simply bounce off). Other than snares and pitfalls (or some insane forlorn hope affixing a petard), not sure how the lads with deal with such a thing!  Although, Westie, the 100 gun Sovereign of the Seas might give it a decent go (assuming they outrange the heat ray!)  :)

I have WW1 stuff coming from Pendraken (an Boer cavalry which I hope to proxie for US Cavalry).

This is going to end up as HOTT, but got both Future War Commander and All Quiet on the Martian Front rules to look at so may try one or both (at the moment like FWC better).

While I slowly work on Monmouth's army, the West Country Militia and MacKay's (Scourie's) Scot's regulars, Toxic Pixie is commissioned to do Faversham's regulars and MacKay's Dutch brigade.

Here are a few of the first pictures Pixie has sent me of the First Foot Guards:





I'm very pleased with them! I would like to paint in this style but just can't see the details on a figure primed black.
They will contrast nicely (and look like by G_d regulars) to my Monmouth's, shall we say, more impressionistic style.

Once you've primed back you can give them a grey or white drybrush and that will bring out much of the detail and leave the recessed parts black.

Thanks! Of the various techniques I've seen and tried I think I missed that one - will give it a try on the Militia.

Balls, I've looked at those several times and I only just spotted I've missed a shoulder strap on one of the grenadiers! Back out the box they come :D

Credit to the sculptor, they're cracking figures. And d_guy's "unit assembly instructions" are very good - they should look very meaty in action!
