28mm British Airborne

Got some more done on these chaps tonight. Strong Tone wash across the bodies and legs - you can really see the impact of this, as the centre chap hasn't been washed yet.
Then boots & weapons with black, woodwork in a mix of Light Brown and Beasty Brown (also used this to add some highlights to the smocks), flesh base coat, and on the right hand four webbing done in Russian Uniform.

Next step is the webbing on the rest of these guys, then hair, which should but paint on everything. Then washes and highlights. Then back to the other six to finish their smocks and webbing.

Looking great!

Are those the warlord ones?

edit: never mind, said so on the last page!

fred.

Thanks Peter.

Yes they are (the plastic ones). They go together very nicely, most weapons come with both arms already attached - which looks a lot better than some of their other kits. The only arm that seems to be 'missing' is one carrying the Bren, or even just a loose Bren, this would have allowed some moving poses too.

Yes the newer sculpts with the arms molded onto the weapons are way better.

They do however, as you say, limit the possibility a bit. I know what you mean, I have assembled 60 of the buggers last week (USMC and IJA)

Thanks chaps, I have enjoyed painting these far more than I thought I would. I normally get a bit bored doing 28s

They are very nice.

I think it's been about two decades since I painted anything larger than 15mm.

Epic - Traitor Guard (red) vs Squats (green & grey)

We've been back on the epic wagon the last few weeks (using our own home-brew cut down epic rules)

This week it was my Squats (who have been generally unbeaten) versus the newly painted Traitor Guard (many of whose infantry are still very much WIP)

We have been using the 40k deck of war scenario cards, which generally produce a interesting scenario. This week we had deployment across the narrow width of the table, in two touching diamond shapes. The scenario was to capture the supply cache - which was 1 of 6 objective markers, which you would checked each one in your control at the start of your turn, and on a 6 is was the supply cache, and this become the objective to hold at the end of the game. The twist was it was night, with an initial 45cm visibility, with a 50% chance of increasing by 15cm each turn.

Turn 1

Traitor Guard tanks advance and take some fire. The Guard had a lot of artillery that was rather redundant early on, and their super heavy tanks where less effective than they should have been, due to the night rules. I was hamper by these rules too, but not as much.

a couple of activations later, from the other side.

Early skirmishes give advantage to the squats - the Leman Russ formation on the far side has been heavily damaged and is broken. The Mechanised Infantry in the centre has been pounded and broken, and the other Leman Russ formation on this side is starting to take fire. I had a significant activation advantage, so was able to let the Guard advance, then move forward to shoot them.

At the start of the second turn I won initiative, and on checking the supply caches, I discovered it in the objective near my baseline. This gave me the game, as I had blunted the Guard attack, and they had a lot of ground to cover into my troops.

Turn 3 or so

I decided to take the fight to the Guard, more to make a game of it, than for any strategic reason. And started to suffer a lot of casualties! As although I had broken a number of guard formations, I hadn't actually managed to destroy any. The Guard player also realised that is SP artillery was fairly mobile so could bring it up and start shooting over open sights.
