wire sections for BKC

Esteemed gentlepeople (and FSN),having just spent the last 3 hours curling florists wire, i have managed to finish my barbed wire sections.

I was going to go with straight wire at first, but after doing two sections i noticed that by winding the wire around the posts, i put tension on my bases, and they started to warp. So i redid them, and made them all into "rolled up" wire sections.





I just plonked the wire bits around the posts, to make them look hastily constructed.i secured the ends by looping them around the posts.

I found an old micro machine toy sentry box too, so i made a section to go with that (thesentry boxstill needs to be painted)

Some pics for scale (the sections are 24 cm X 2,5 cm)





All in all a good week of terrain building!

Carful how you store them - otherwise they get very tangled.

Ass long as my opponent gets his guys tangled up in them, i'm good 

They are going in a flat box, where they can stand all next to each other to avoid 'mishaps'

I've been planning to do something like this myself - what's the opinion on whether wire should be straight or coiled? Coiled is actually easier, and, as noted, less likely to cause hassles with the bases & posts.

It was a bit of a dilemma for me. Coiled looks better, but straigth allows you to put stands on them to show they are going through.I think i will show that by putting the stands over the edge of the base.

What about some sort of frame for the stand to sit on? My immediate thought was the plastic bits that pizza delivery companies in the middle of the pizza to hold the lid up, but they'd probably be too big (might work for vehicles though). MDF base with matchstick legs glued on?

Anyway, just a thought

Whichever way I do it, I'm going to make dome 'destroyed' sections of wire. I base on big lollipop sticks ('tongue depressors') and always build a few with demolished gaps in the middle - fences, walls, hedges, etc.

I did that for my acw fences, but they had a tendency to split when i drilled into them so i tried something else.

MDF should be more resistant to drilling (beware of the dust though), but you could burn the holes in a tongue depressor using a soldering iron maybe? (Beware the smoke  )

Don't have a soldering iron 

I prefer drilling though, i just put them all on a stack, and drill right through all of them in one go. Needs a long drill bit but is very fast

Stick the rear of a needle into a cork so the point of the needle is sticking out.

Put the point of the needle in a candle flame for a few seconds.

Apply.

Not sure that would be hot enough for long enough to burn a hole through a tongue-depressor though?
