Silver highlights, final dusty dry brush and figure bases done on the Syrian mounted, they are ready to base :)

Magnetic vinyl glued to the Syrian bases overnight, detailed label glued under bases this morning :)
I will talk to the guys about what style of label to use on top of the bases at our game tonight :-\

Syrian foot dry brushed last night, main colours added this morning :)

Byzantine heavy mounted's horses base coated last night and dry brushed this morning :)

I better sort out which of the remaining Byzantines to prepared for the painting rods currently occupied by the Syrian mounted :-\

Progress continues apace :)

Finalised the base labels with the guys last night, some tweaks required to the samples I've done :)

Started details on the Syrian foot, skin base colour done :)

Byzantine heavy mounted horse's manes, tails and markings done :)
Armour base colour painted, details added :)

Sorted out which Byzantine are next, will prep them today :)

I'm really enjoying painting the smaller batches in this project even thought they are mostly irregular

I use a small rectangle 10x5mm, the rectangle is coloured for the army and the DBA troop type is on the label in white. Below is an example of the labels for the Syrian army.
DBA bases are 40x 20, 30, or 40 depending on the troop type.

The astute amongst you will have noted there are more than 12 labels and there are 12 elements in a DBA army, this is because there are 3 optional elements.

Crikey you are cracking on with these.

I assume as its DBA you don't have many figures to a base or many bases to an army?

Not many figures, I'm using almost the same numbers of figures for mounted as suggested for 15mm (2, 3 or 4 depending on type).
For foot I'm using about double the suggested numbers for 15mm (3-9 depending on type)

The Syrian "army" is only 55 figures ;)

The weather may be good enough for varnishing on Saturday, hopefully followed by some photographs :)

All the camps and the first army done in less than a month :o :) #:-S

Hmm. I've been painting 45 figures for a unit for my LoA project!!

I'm not sure which is the best approach. You at least get playable forces very quickly.

The largest army is the Early Crusader with 190 figures ;)

That gives me enough to troops to field two Early Crusader armies or to convert one of them to Later Crusader

Several of the troops have two options, e.g. Knights or dismounted knights as Blade, so covering all options gave me almost two armies. It made sense to add the few more to give two full armies and add the three to allow conversion to Later Crusader
