Yes rather a long way to go for a coffee ;)

Still being a coffee fan I think that Martin's idea of having coffee (and later food - something more than just the traditional wargaming staple of mince pies and a microwave - by the sound of it) available on site plus plenty of gaming space is really good and the way forward for "high street" shops like this one.

Best of luck for their new venture.

It does look good - it's barely 2miles from my house, and I haven't been since Christmas.

For some reason it doesn't fit with either my game playing or my buying.

Always good to see more shops like this opening, good luck to him.

A full food offering is a tricky one to carry out though, as anything more than toasties and sandwiches requries a lot of overheads in terms of equipment/staff, needing them on site and active even when there's no sales.  Some of the pubs I ran years ago had kitchens that barely covered the costs, relying on the drinks sales to keep the overall business ticking over.  When so many games shops struggle to compete with the online market, you don't want to end up having to support an onsite kitchen as well.

Good point Leon.

We had a good gaming store here in Wellington for a number of years located in the busiest part of the CBD that I supported as best I could but in the end the owners didn't renew the lease as (IIRC) the overheads were just too high.

I think the problem is going to be ranges. As a committed (in both senses of the word) 10mm gamer, I'm guessing that there will be little there to draw my attention. Surely it is impossible to stock sufficient variety to draw enough returning customers.

Though Southport, as retirement capital of the North is a good choice.

Occasionally, I need to visit our Southport office. so will pop in.
