Was using my credit card to buy stuff through Paypal a couple of hours ago.

Have to say I was quite impressed at how quickly it was spotted and the card cancelled.

(Don't worry...I did check really properly that I was speaking to the REAL people.)

The Credit card companies are very quick on this nowdays. Problem is when you do use it for something unusual they block you. Still rather that than have to chase it up and argue the Toss.

I had a credit card stolen a few years ago and I cancelled it.  Nothing for about 3 months then all of a sudden I got a letter from the credit card company asking if I had found it and was using it as they listed a load of purchases. and sent me a copy of the signatures.

Whoever had it was cleverly buying stuff below the Floor limit so the card was not being checked. The forged signature was spot on, even I could not tell the difference. Fortunately the purchases were for places I have never been to.



If its Paypal purchases they should be able to trace the delivery address back to the barsteward, or at least an accomplice

I've had a lot of fraudulent e-mails supposedly coming from Paypal recently. I think it's the scammers latest tactic.

It wasn't the MIL was it? What were they trying to buy?

The card has been cancelled....and broken into pieces already.

No idea what they were trying to buy.....But I've just had a strange email from someone, asking about something I'm selling on eBay.
As I've never sold (or am selling) anything on eBay...I wonder if this is tied in to the credit card.

Aha.

Matey that e'mailed me had sold something (psn codes, whatever they are) to my fraudulent doppelganger.....But he hadn't sent them....So I told him not to.

Been trying to get onto eBay, to give them the heads up.....But can't get into the site....I'm assuming the barsteward has changed my password.
And though I've been trying to change it to something new.....eBay don't seem to respond. (MAYBE I'm blocked, at the mo')

The extra irritating 'thing' is that the Orange webmail page is 'down'...So I can't see whether they're intercepting any mails from eBay, and putting them into their spam folder !

I had a similar problem a Salute someone ran round buying things with my card. Well that is what I will tell my wife when the bill comes

I was apparently supposed to be buying something from the chap that contacted me via email.

Apparently (again) someone pretending to be me was going to meet the seller, somewhere close to the seller's home address..... Hmmm :-\  Fishy ?

Once I'd got it all sorted with the card's 'Action Fraud Dept' and let the seller know that the fraud dept was looking into it...and they might well be contacting the boys in blue.....He got terribly abusive, and started accusing me of being a scammer and wishing me a painful death.

I now think HE was (part of ?) the fraud and had been trying to make up for the card being blocked almost instantly.
Got eBay sorted too.....Yes.....They had suspended the account because of 'iffy' activity.

I hate some people.

Attachments NEVER get opened, Ian..(Unless I'm CERTAIN that they'll be relevant)..But definitely worth saying.
I normally wouldn't have answered.....But I thought it might give me a clue as to what was going on, as the credit card fraud dept could only tell me that 'someone' had used the card for four Paypal payments.....(Now having sorted eBay out, I know all four were on Ebay.)
