Hello!

I'm a total beginner to 10mm, and a fairly new recruit to the world of wargaming and miniature painting in general. I am a real Great War buff, and have tried 15mm and 6mm, too big and too small respectively. 10mm seemed like the perfect scale, and with an added bonus, has the best community I've seen.

What rules do you use for WW1, particularly in 6MM.  I have a couple of painted armies I inherited and keep meaning to try them out

I only ever played one "skirmish" size test game, but we used Spearhead rules with the Great War supplement. The game actually played quite well, and we might adjust them a little for use in our 10mm wars.

If you're a WWI buff, there's a great thread here somewhere about a Gallipoli project done with Perry figures. Anyone have that thread URL handy?

I've recently been to Bovington to see the Centurions and other animals, and was enthused to climb into a MkIV. It tempts me to try the Allenby campaigns - but at the moment I'm stuck into late Normans (don't ask "late Norman's what?" - that's Westmarcher's job), but seem also to be painting some generic trains. I have a butterfly enthusiasm that I feel is going to pull me towards some WWII Poles.

Anyway, a hearty welcome.

Welcome, Nick. Great War, you say. No doubt you will therefore have seen the newly introduced British supply wagons. Not my period but who can't help being seduced by such gems. Hopefully, we'll read more from you in future (especially as you have now met fsn aka Nobby aka Milord Oik).

I think you're right about 10mm being a good compromise of detail and size though I still collect in anything from 3mm to 15mm.

The Pendraken range is extensive, you may need to prepare yourself for starting off looking for an addition to your WW1 collection and finding that you've suddenly bought a League of Augsburg force or a Late Roman legion! :)

Two members, paulr and pierre_the_shy, have been doing very nice Middle East WW1 stuff as has another member, WeeWars. The latter runs Supreme Littleness  http://www.supremelittleness.co.uk/, a site that does mdf scenery. He's done some interesting 10mm trench formers - just add filler.

As to the painting, if you post pics here not only are people very kind and gentle in their comments but those who are any good will often give useful suggestions on techniques to make them even better. Feel free to chip in with your two ha'porth too.
