Has anyone tried these yet? I have some 28mm GB figures crying out to be painted and wondered if anyone had any comments on these rules. I'm afraid Saga doesn't really appeal, so I'm hoping these might be more my cup of tea.

They're awesome!  Although to be fair I've only read my copy, we're playing on Monday.

However given it's using the same mechanics as In Her Majesties Name and Daisho which we've played long campaigns off within the club I can only recommend them. They suit a narrative campaign style and with a 1d10 system outcomes are by no means guaranteed which helps provide it's own flavour to the game. I'd suggest checking out the blogs for the other two games they do and check through some of the game logs that we've had put up from the Falkirk club to see some of the hilarity that has ensued.

I have a copy due any day now but they certainly sound good. they are a different game than Saga which is aimed at around 30+ figures per side whereas Blood Eagle is 3-12 figures per side.

We found IHMN a bit hard going, I think mainly due to the use of D10 :(. Shame as the background is great. I may replace D10 with 2D6 for some solo games and knock up some 10mm figures to give the rules another go...

I tried to like IHMN but it's just not happening - too convoluted.

If you're looking for a 28mm Dark Age skirmish game I'd heartily recommend Dux Britanniarum by TooFatLardies, cracking game with in built character building campaign, PDF is pretty cheap  :D

Sold off my IHMN collection . Lovely figures dull rules. For my dark ages fix I still default to Lion Rampant. SAGA is ok

What was the problem with D10s? Wasn't taken with the background but the rules seemed OK but then I only played a couple of games.

With a number of sets of rules a D10 can give wild swings of results, using 2D6, and subtracting 2, gives the same range of results with the middle results more likely

Don't know if this blog game report is of any use (I've not read it, just saw the headline on my blog feed)

Rimmer: "Aliens."

Lister: "Oh God, aliens... Your explanation for anything slightly peculiar is aliens, isn't it?

Rimmer: "Well, we didn't use it all, Lister. Who did?"

Lister: "Rimmer, aliens used our bog roll?"

Ah, being a great believer in "who ever told you life was fair?" I liked the more random D10 results. Each to their own. :)

Careful. The numbers are VERY different with 2 D6.

I know but might give it a go. With D10 we just found that in the end it was complete luck who won due to the luck of the die roll, compared to the bell curve 2D6 gives.

Agree with Steve. If games are decided by luck rather than tactics you may as well not bother with figures, terrain or even a rule set. Just bung a few dice.

Boring :(

Frostgrave suffers similarly as it uses a linear d20 which leads to extreme results being just as common as the mundane result.

It plays much better with the d20 replaced by 2d6
