Looks interesting, though the subject is around two thousand years too modern for my current interests.

FK have you come across 'An Invincible Beast - Understanding the Hellenistic pike-phalanx at war' by Christopher Matthew, published by Pen and Sword. It is a remarkably in-depth study of the phalangite. Apparently he has carried out a similar study of hoplites, entitled 'A Storm of Spears'.

I read "A Storm of Spears" and seem to remember courting controversy on this very forum  by passing on his opinion that the hoplite spear was used underhand. Excellent read. Lots of nice statistics and measurements and experience from re-enactors.
