Quote""Hey, this is Europe. We took it from nobody; we won it from the bare soil that the ice left. The bones of our ancestors, and the stones of their works, are everywhere. Our liberties were won in wars and revolutions so terrible that we do not fear our governors: they fear us. Our children giggle and eat ice-cream in the palaces of past rulers. We snap our fingers at kings. We laugh at popes. When we have built up tyrants, we have brought them down. And we have nuclear *f***ing* weapons.""

I rather like that, where did it come from, the only Ken McLeod I can find on Google has a lot of stuff about Buddhism which doesn't chime quite right with the quote.

Second hit on Google :)

Even misspelt without the "a", my fault ;D

I highly recommend his books - very good reading, especially the "Fall Revolution" series. That quote came from a response to someone posting Heinlein's rather unpleasant and inaccurate "cowards and weaklings" quote about the glorious founders of the Americas.

Never mind Europe, you might as well lob the whole world in. And surely when the Anglo-Saxons began to settle they must have fancied some of the Britons and vice versa, so you can't leave the Celts out.

How about:

Engerland, Engerland, Engerland ,(pause for breath) Engerland, Engerland,Engerland, (repeat as often as you wish!
'If I throw a six I'll do my happy dance'!

Rimmer: "Aliens."

Lister: "Oh God, aliens... Your explanation for anything slightly peculiar is aliens, isn't it?

Rimmer: "Well, we didn't use it all, Lister. Who did?"

Lister: "Rimmer, aliens used our bog roll?"

Good  Idea!  So, perhaps to emphase England's historic mission, something like the old Coca Cola advert, "I'd like to teach the world to sing, in perfect harmony" would be appropriate?   ;) :D

Think you could replace the words with, "I'd like to rule the world again, In a red coat like Michael Caine." Should please the Daily Mail readers!

Now I do like the song "Born Slippy" but, my word, reading the lyrics they make absolutely no sense what-so-ever. Like if you were on drugs or something!  ;)

Also, I'd rather have a pint of John Smith's "Magnet" Best Bitter. [this maybe only available here in the North East?]

Rimmer: "Aliens."

Lister: "Oh God, aliens... Your explanation for anything slightly peculiar is aliens, isn't it?

Rimmer: "Well, we didn't use it all, Lister. Who did?"

Daily Mail?

They won't be choosing anything by Foreigner then?
If I were creating Pendraken I wouldn't mess about with Romans and  Mongols  I would have started with Centurions , eight o'clock, Day One!

Leman

 ;D ;D ;D ;D

You can get John Smith's Magnet in the northwest as well.

John Smith's Magnet is dreadful. Beer that bad was one of the reasons I moved away from Teesside in the 80's.

Magnet .... not a patch on Tactical Nuclear Penguin! :)

How about 'We're all in this together' to the tune of 'There'll always be an England.'  Hmmm........ maybe not.

One of my favourite breweries, run by a mate as well :-)
It also has possibly the smallest pub in UK

It may boast it, but if it is the Lakeside Inn, then it is huge compared to The Nutshell in Bury St Edmunds!

...He drinks a whiskey drink
He drinks a vodka drink
He drinks a lager drink
He drinks a cider drink...

Name that song.

Doesn't count as a public house though  :(

Can't beat a bit of Chumbawumba, but "A is for Anarchy" is the better album ;)
