They look suitably irregular. Before reading the caption I thought they were some of Monmouth's chaps.

I'm sure they may get used for this too.

Mini Epic Game
In the proud spirit of tinkering with rules, we decided Epic Armageddon was just too complex and faffy for the sort of game we normally want to play. Cue much discussion of what we wanted, and more keenly what we didn't want. After a bit of searching I discovered Fubar 1 page rules, which had some good ideas and certainly strip things back! But in the end I ended up writing a set of rules in a couple of hours in the middle of the week running to about 3 pages - its hugely derivative from Epic and Fubar. A key thing we wanted was to use the Epic army lists, but simplified.

So we gave it a whirl last night - and it pretty much worked. We sorted out Aircraft - which have added a page of rules in themselves.

Any way some photos. Banana Marines vs Squats

Early game, left flank

Marine bikes have switched from centre to the flank, Whirlwinds failed their order. Predators have copped it from Overlord airship shooting.

And right flank from the same time

The Land Raiders have shot up the Iron Eagle Gyrocopters badly, the Tactical Marines have copped loads of fire from Artillery, their Rhinos have been shot up by my Guns, and my Warriors have moved up right next to them in the buildings.

The centre a bit later

The Warhound Titan has advanced and tried to shoot up the Overlords, but with limited effect, like wise the land speeders attempted the same (both have Macro Weapons so should have been good at this, but had woeful dice rolls). The land speeders were then shot up by my large infantry formation. The remaining Predators have suffered too. My Iron Eagles failed to rally and are effectively out of the game.
Over on the right flank the marines were about to suffer badly at the hands of my Support Formation and Bikers guild.

The rules don't define the number of figures per base - often they are based on thin rectangular bases, often 3 across. I've gone with round bases for most of my vehicles, I prefer the look. My SM infantry was bought painted on rectangular bases, so I left them as is!

Me three, if that's OK.

Several of us have Epic armies but none of us are really satisfied with the rules we've tried.

As I've been thinking about Epic rules, I had a rummage through my Epic figures, and sorted out some of the last odds and ends at the weekend. Got various troops based, and moved into the foam storage with the rest of the army (even if they aren't painted yet). Got a few others assembled and sprayed today. I'm now at the stage where all my Epic Tyranids and Marines are based up and all but a handful are painted. For my squats I have 3 infantry formations to spray and paint, then base up. But the rest of that army is built and sprayed. There is a fair bit to paint yet, but not loads. Basically cleared 3 layers of a really useful box into a single layer of odd bits and pieces, and got the rest into the army carry cases - where I can at least see it and be reminded that it needs painting!

Random progress on units from all 3 forces:
