I have put together a short video about 'hexing' the battlefield. It shows a few benefits of hexes and then explores a variety of terrain pieces.

I use the kalistra hexon boards for naval warfare, got a box of the blue hexon plates, and just great stuff! I use the hexon mountains for islands and it works ok! I put one textured 'base' hex at the edge of each side of the playing area to represent land based aircraft bases to store my planes on and i'm good to go!






If i didn't have so much scenery already, i would just go hexon all the way!

What scale are the ships / aircraft, they seem ideal for the 4" hex. I like the idea about the land based landing area.

They are the axis and allies war at sea ships, so 1/1850 for the ships and 1/900 for the airplane squadrons.

Some of the very big ships don't fit in, but the overlap is not too much, so you can always tell wich hex the ship is occupying
