What a week!

Just back from a short holiday at Lake Garda (Italy). San Martino battlefield (1859) so tantalisingly close (could see the memorial tower in the distance) but never got to go. Nevertheless, had a great time; temperature in 30s, nice scenery, picturesque towns, visits to Venice & Verona and got to see the fortifications at Peschiera and the gates to the Arsenale in Venice. 

Great to be back .... 

And so close to Custozza as well!  Never mind, there is always next year

When in Bovi make sure to find out the time they open the 'stores', where they have all the kit awaiting resoration etc. We missed it on our visit but hope to go again this year and see said 'stores'. BTW you pass right by the home of TE Lawrence as you are almost in Bovi; blink and you'll miss it.

You're right, Moll. So much 'good stuff' there for guys like us .... yet no organised tours or trips ... its all got to be DIY. You know, I've driven in France, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, USA & Oz but Italy still scares me! - but it might be the only way to do all of these 'important' venues. As you say, there's always next year .....

You're right, Moll. So much 'good stuff' there for guys like us .... yet no organised tours or trips ... its all got to be DIY. You know, I've driven in France, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, USA & Oz but Italy still scares me!

Not quite true regarding the no organised trips. Have a look at the Cultural Experience website. Off to FPW in July, Italy 1859/66 in October, Bohemia 1866 next June!

But what I was meaning is that there does not appear to be any organised tours specifically including battlefields if you turn up at a local resort (although, to be fair, they did have a brand new WW1 tour - but this seemed to be focused on war cemeteries ...). Am I right in thinking The Cultural Experience holidays are a complete holiday package and not a one day event (that Mrs W. would be able to put up with)?

They are complete holiday packages, but seem to attract a good number of women. Content and length varies from tour to tour.   The website is well worth a browse, and having done the recces for the Italian tour you do get to go  to some beautiful places!
