Need some help with Russian dragoons of the Crimean war. Google-fu failure!
What colour uniform, coat and pants, what colour were lance pennants, and what colour/make were their canteen water bottles?

Cheers,

Mark

These are from the Junior General site:

This artwork has the green uniform as well, with the lances:

But Foundry have theirs looking like this...

Hope that's of some help!

CHeers Leon,
hence my confusion
junior general has green coat and green pants with leg stripe
Strelets has green coat with blue-grey pants
Foundry and all others show the buff greatcoat and can't see uniform....

:(

If memory serves didn't the Heavy Cavalry Brigade have a bit of trouble with the Russian cavalry because their sabres were no good against the greatcoats worn by them? (Semantic nightmare but I hope you got my drift.)  If so go with the all-covering greatcoats.

Can't find a reference, of course, but I remember reading this too. The lighter, sharper Light Cavalry swords cut through the cloth but the heavier, blunter Heavy Cavalry swords didn't penetrate the cloth. Presumably a good blow with the Heavy Cavalry sword would still  inflict blunt force trauma wounds.

Its in Flashman at the Charge !
Don't buy your daughters a pony, buy them heroin instead, its cheaper and ultimately less addictive.

Since, as far as I recall, I've never read any of the Flashman books I'd assume I read it in something more reliable ... but you never know!

Yes, it is recorded in a book I've read recently on  the Crimea. You can't go wrong if you put the Russian dragoons in greatcoats.
