Using N gauge with 10mm

N gauge for 10mm.

Rail model shops are a good source of scenic stuff for 10mm figures.

Here is a link to some model rail stock that I have made a scenic from, and while there if you click on the 'non-hex terrain' tab, there is a collection of various buildings from a model shop, which are widely available.

N gauge work well if you are doing a small scale game with a few battalions defending a village or an industrial complex. For larger scale games I shift down a gear to 6mm buildings to get a smaller footprint. With massive battles I am using 3mm buildings with 6mm figures. I have found that different combinations of figure and building scales enable a wide variety of battles to be fought over a 6'x4' table. I must admit that I have been collecting stuff for over 40 years now.

If it works for you then fine, no problem.

But for me, if twelve figures are a battalion then one house is a village and that dog kennel is a hamlet.

Faller N gauge 'Mountain Chapel' with some Pendraken Ottomans for scale. Not cheap but rather pretty. 2mm MDF base, plasticard fence, 'old-school' railway flock, mainly Vallejo paints.

Disagree. For me a house is a house, several houses are a village, and if there's a dog kennel it's because I'm playing a company level game and the buildings are the same scale as the figures. If I've gone to the trouble of painting figures to the best of my ability I'm not going to ruin the illusion with one measly house representing a village.

Which is fine if you're happy to paint 500 - 1000 figures per battalion

As said, if it works for you, it works for you and that's fine.

I just find it easier to scale the numbers of everything than to change the scales of some things but not others. Entirely personal preference, though I did want the chance to put the case for the alternative.

It works for me. Single building villages don't work for me.
